Mid week Mask ~ Too Cool For School Pumpkin 24K Gold Mask

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween! Mine was very quiet, which is just how I like it haha Now, we are fully in the swing of Hallowthanksmas, which is kinda the worst part of the season for me. None of the autumnal holidays have their own space any more. Every year, the stores push for earlier and earlier Christmas displays. I’m not even kidding, the pharmacy I use had Christmas decorations up, in the same aisle with Halloween, two weeks before Halloween! That’s just much too soon. Back when I was a kid, that stuff didn’t come out until after Thanksgiving. Now, that was quite a long while ago haha but there are some things from the ancient past that are worth revisiting.

Want to know what I would prefer to not revisit? The mask I used yesterday. It’s kind of a rare thing for me to not like a sheet mask, but I couldn’t even leave this one on my face for the full recommended time! So let’s just get right into it …

I had such high hopes for this cute l’il guy! It smelled fantastic and was full of serum. It came with a backing, I guess to keep it from sticking to itself in the package. I get that idea, but it’s a bit of a pain for me to peel a dripping wet mask off of a backing. I just don’t have the dexterity in my fingers any more to fool with that sort of thing. But, that’s really a minor thing.

The biggest problem for me with this mask was it was absolutely huge on my face! Now, I know I can have a big head at times, but this must have been made for a giant! In all of the fuss with trying to get it to stay on my face, I neglected to take photos. This is really one time when my goofy mask photos would have been quite beneficial. Because it was so large, it had to be folded in places, which means it didn’t make great contact with my face in some areas. That lead to it sliding all over the place, getting in my mouth and eyes. I got so frustrated with trying to keep it in place, that I ended up taking it off and tossing it after about ten minutes. They recommend 15-20 minutes. I’m sure I got some benefit, but not what it could have been.

There was ample serum left on my face, so I patted that into my skin. It took quite a while for it to fully absorb, more than an hour, which I think it a bit on the long side. This mask experience seemed to be one frustration after another. I think if it had fit better, the longer absorption time wouldn’t have bothered me as much. I understand that manufacturer’s need to do their best to make these products one size fits most, and I get that. However, in all of my vast sheet mask experience, I’ve never had one fit so poorly. And the real bummer is this mask was $8 from Sephora, so I can’t even excuse it by saying it was a cheap mask! One final criticism … where the heck was the gold?? The mask itself was plain old white, and there were definitely no gold flecks in the serum. No gold!

Have any of y’all tried this mask? Did you have an equally frustrating experience, or was yours smooth sailing? Lemme know!

Skincare Saturday … on a Sunday

Happy Monday eve, y’all! Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend. Mine has been pretty blah. I had to go into town on Friday afternoon, and it basically ruined my weekend. It takes so much out of me, these days, to complete the simplest of tasks. I had to pick up my truck from the repair shop, for the final time, let’s all hope. Then, I ran to the pharmacy, the story of my life when I’m in town, ran into Sephora, got gas, then hung out with some friends. I was in town a whopping four hours. I didn’t sleep well Friday night, which means my need for sleep on Saturday was insane. There are times when I truly hate this disease more than others, and this weekend has been one of those times. I did get some pretty cool things at Sephora, though, which almost makes it worth it. Almost …

I did get an incredible skin care product Friday, but I’m not quite ready to talk about it with y’all. Let me use it for the next week, and it’ll be the focus of next Saturday’s post, that’ll actually go up on Saturday haha, hopefully. I do want to tell you guys about a great mask I ordered earlier this week from Ulta. You may or may not know, but we are currently in Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty sale. That’s a special time of year when truly awesome products are deeply discounted for one day only, and there are 21 days of such deals. Not only that, but there are side deals all throughout the sale. While I was checking out the side deals, I came across The Body Shop’s British Rose Fresh Plumping Mask.

I think I may have mentioned that I have a thing for roses and rose scented products. That means that, of course, this went into my shopping basket, without hesitation. I don’t think I even looked at what it claimed to do hahaha It arrived a few days ago, just in time for Skincare Saturday! (Ignore my ghastly manicure in these photos. I have since remedied that situation. Also, I’m human … my nails are not 100% perfect, 100% of the time.)

So here’s the lovely little jar. It was $28 for 2.6 oz of product. Clearly, this one not one of the side sale items. It is 100% vegetarian and is made without parabens, silicone, mineral oils or paraffins. I don’t see any cruelty-free notations, which is unfortunate. Let’s talk about the claims … rose petal and essence of hand-picked British roses to freshly replenish the skin’s water reserves, rosehip oil from Chile which is rich in Omegas 3 and 6, to help tone skin and Community Trade Organic aloe vera from Mexico, which is known for its calming and soothing skin care properties. The box goes on to say that skin is instantly replenished with moisture, feels ultra smooth, silky soft and toned. With continued use, you can expect a dewy, youthful glow. Starting with a clean, wet face, smooth a thin layer onto the skin, avoiding the eyes and lips. Can be applied to the neck and décolleté, a well. Leave on 5-10 minutes, then rinse with warm water. I believe I was distracted, and left mine on for 15 minutes, without ill effect. Distracted is my middle name hehe

You can actually see roses in the gel! That was the second thing I noticed. The first was the heavenly scent. It’s not perfume-y, by any means. It smells like a tub of roses, and it’s divine. It was very easy to rinse off, and just the faintest hint of rose smell lingered for a few minutes. I didn’t take before and after photos, because it’s too hard to see results with a face mask. Results are intended to be seen with time, not immediately.

I have to say, though, my skin did appear a bit plumper and a bit healthier. Especially around my eye/upper cheek area. The box says this can be used 2-3 times per week, or daily, if desired. While I don’t think daily is necessary for my skin, I can see this being a part of my nightly skin care routine 2-3 times per week. Maybe on the nights I don’t use the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask.

To say I am happy with this mask would be a huge understatement. It would be perfect if it were cruelty-free. That is pretty much the only downside I am seeing right now. I will have to see how long it takes to use the entire jar, using it 2-3 times a week, to determine if the cost is justified. If it lasts two months, then yeah, I can see this having a permanent place in my routine.

Okay y’all, have any of you used this mask before? Or any other products from The Body Shop? Do you like what you’ve used? Lemme know!

Midweek Mask ~ Formula 10.0.6 Be Berry Smooth

Happy Hump Day, y’all! I am getting excited, finally haha My hubby comes home Wednesday to help get out daughter moved back to school and my truck is ready! Not exactly sure which I’m most excited for, at this point hahaha He’s been working out of state since the end of June, and he’ll be going back a few days after we get her moved … sigh … pretty bummed about that, honestly. We gotta do what we gotta do sometimes, even if we don’t like it. That’s one of the things about adulting that I don’t love. Ah well, I am also elated to be getting my truck back. My transmission went out, then my distributor went haywire and this time, my spark plugs were a mess, likely a result of the distributor. The repair guy (a longtime family friend) said it runs like a totally different truck now hahahaha I am going to assume that’s a good thing.

I also got several deliveries today … YAY! In one of those deliveries, was a whole box of skin care from Ulta! Sometimes, Ulta and Sephora take forever, to process and ship my orders. I have no idea why, but I placed this order on the 11th. Not too bad. Anyway, I had forgotten what I ordered, so it was quite a treat to open the box and find this guy, begging to be reviewed tonight haha

I was more than happy to oblige! I have never purchased a peel off mask in a tube. It’s always been the one use packets, not that they are all that different. Then only difference is I can use much less when it’s packages like this. When I’m using the one-time use packets, I really feel like I have to use all of the product (no matter how much is really in there), so that it doesn’t dry up and go to waste.

For starters, this smells amazing. Definitely fruity, but not sickly sweet kind of fruity. You can pick out the berry and the pineapple. It also has some interesting ingredients: actual blueberry fruit, coffee, morinda citrifolia, also known as cheese fruit (lol, whatttt?), mangosteen, pomegranate, tea leaf, and açai. WOW!!! This mask is chock full of botanical, superfruity goodness! It says it will reveal “super soft berry smooth skin”. Let’s just see about that …

To begin with, I used significantly less that I usually do, simply because of the packaging. This resulted in a much thinner coating on my face. I’m not sure how I felt about it being thinner, and may use more the next time I use this one, to see if it makes any difference.

It’s a sheer lilac color, and smells incredible. It goes on just like normal peel-off mask and the instructions say to leave on 10-15 minutes, or until dry. Mine dried fairly quickly, except for my forehead area. That took a bit longer, for some reason. Removal was pretty standard, except it said to rinse thoroughly with warm water. Is that standard with peel off masks? Hmm lol for the life of me, I can’t recall! Now, was I moisturized?

20904366_10155662032104357_185934834_o

Umm … maybe. My cheek area, below my cheek bones felt a bit dry initially. That may have been from rinsing with warm water, really. After waiting an hour or so, my skin does feel quite hydrated. Is my skin “berry” smooth? It didn’t magically remove texture, but my face does feel quite nice. Maybe with multiple uses it will work on my texture? That would be cool, and I will be paying attention to that, the more I use this.

I really like this one. The price was fair ($7 at Ulta), the smell is pretty awesome, and my skin feels pretty nice. I’m looking forward to seeing what repeated uses will do for my skin! Do you have a favorite peel-off mask? Lemme know all about it!
