Midweek Mask ~ I Dew Care, and an ER trip!

Good Wednesday, y’all. Sigh … the past 18 hours have been awful. Last night, my daughter was bit by a snake, in the throat, while she was lying in her bed playing a video game. Yep … there was a snake in my house. Still is a snake in the house, because we couldn’t find it last night. It was small, and after it bit her, she flung it off and it hit the floor and immediately slithered under her bed. Because we couldn’t identify the snake, and because of where it bit her, I decided an ER visit was absolutely in order. Luckily, we weren’t there long, considering. I think from start to finish, we were there three hours. And we got into a room immediately. They do not play around when you say snake bite. There are four varieties of venomous snakes in my area, we ruled out three instantly. One, however, was a possibility. So, they needed to monitor her vitals, and keep an eye on the bite. A lot of baby snakes cannot control their venom, so their bites can be more dangerous. Thank goodness it turned out to be non venomous kind, based on how she was in the ER. The unfortunate thing is my daughter already disliked living out in the country. This experience really cemented that for her, and I get it. She was in her bed, a supposed to be safe space, and was bitten, by a snake, of all things. Physically, she is fine, now. Emotionally, she is pretty shattered. A college student has never been more happy for move-in day than her right now. Needless to say, I didn’t get to post last night.

Considering everything that transpired over the last 18 hours, I thought I would try a new mask in my collection. I ordered the calamine based mask from I Dew Care a few weeks ago and figured calming was exactly what I needed haha.

21081591_10155681320014357_1734754910_o

It has a kind of jelly consistency, different than other clay masks I’ve tried. It smells about like you’d expect a calamine mask to smell. Not great, but not terrible … like calamine lotion.

21057826_10155681320034357_528152862_o

This was a 10-15 minute commitment, and that’s just about perfect. It gets quite tight as it dries, similar to how a peel-off mask gets. A simple warm water rinse and it was done. I didn’t  notice an immediate difference, but I think that’s because removing this mask took a bit of work, and that made my skin red, of course. I looked at it after about an hour and it looked pretty good. I didn’t take an after picture, because they always add to my redness, for some reason. I dunno if it’s the lighting in my house, or what, but my face always looks redder in photos that it actually is. I guess you’ll just have to take my word for it. My skin also feels surprisingly hydrated. Some clay masks can be drying, but this one isn’t at all.

I see you, I Dew Care! And I’ll be looking into your other masks. I’m pretty happy with how my skin looks and feels tonight. My only complaint is I wish it smelled better. Calamine isn’t a bad smell, it just kinda smells like clay. I wish this had a slight floral scent, or something. But, that’s just personal preference and has nothing to do with how the mask performs.

Have any of you tried any of the I Dew Care skin care products? What do  you think about them, if you have? Let me know!

Midweek Mask ~ Formula 10.0.6 Be Berry Smooth

Happy Hump Day, y’all! I am getting excited, finally haha My hubby comes home Wednesday to help get out daughter moved back to school and my truck is ready! Not exactly sure which I’m most excited for, at this point hahaha He’s been working out of state since the end of June, and he’ll be going back a few days after we get her moved … sigh … pretty bummed about that, honestly. We gotta do what we gotta do sometimes, even if we don’t like it. That’s one of the things about adulting that I don’t love. Ah well, I am also elated to be getting my truck back. My transmission went out, then my distributor went haywire and this time, my spark plugs were a mess, likely a result of the distributor. The repair guy (a longtime family friend) said it runs like a totally different truck now hahahaha I am going to assume that’s a good thing.

I also got several deliveries today … YAY! In one of those deliveries, was a whole box of skin care from Ulta! Sometimes, Ulta and Sephora take forever, to process and ship my orders. I have no idea why, but I placed this order on the 11th. Not too bad. Anyway, I had forgotten what I ordered, so it was quite a treat to open the box and find this guy, begging to be reviewed tonight haha

I was more than happy to oblige! I have never purchased a peel off mask in a tube. It’s always been the one use packets, not that they are all that different. Then only difference is I can use much less when it’s packages like this. When I’m using the one-time use packets, I really feel like I have to use all of the product (no matter how much is really in there), so that it doesn’t dry up and go to waste.

For starters, this smells amazing. Definitely fruity, but not sickly sweet kind of fruity. You can pick out the berry and the pineapple. It also has some interesting ingredients: actual blueberry fruit, coffee, morinda citrifolia, also known as cheese fruit (lol, whatttt?), mangosteen, pomegranate, tea leaf, and açai. WOW!!! This mask is chock full of botanical, superfruity goodness! It says it will reveal “super soft berry smooth skin”. Let’s just see about that …

To begin with, I used significantly less that I usually do, simply because of the packaging. This resulted in a much thinner coating on my face. I’m not sure how I felt about it being thinner, and may use more the next time I use this one, to see if it makes any difference.

20906943_10155662032124357_682094818_o

It’s a sheer lilac color, and smells incredible. It goes on just like normal peel-off mask and the instructions say to leave on 10-15 minutes, or until dry. Mine dried fairly quickly, except for my forehead area. That took a bit longer, for some reason. Removal was pretty standard, except it said to rinse thoroughly with warm water. Is that standard with peel off masks? Hmm lol for the life of me, I can’t recall! Now, was I moisturized?

20904366_10155662032104357_185934834_o

Umm … maybe. My cheek area, below my cheek bones felt a bit dry initially. That may have been from rinsing with warm water, really. After waiting an hour or so, my skin does feel quite hydrated. Is my skin “berry” smooth? It didn’t magically remove texture, but my face does feel quite nice. Maybe with multiple uses it will work on my texture? That would be cool, and I will be paying attention to that, the more I use this.

I really like this one. The price was fair ($7 at Ulta), the smell is pretty awesome, and my skin feels pretty nice. I’m looking forward to seeing what repeated uses will do for my skin! Do you have a favorite peel-off mask? Lemme know all about it!

Mid~ Week Mask ~ Pineapple Peelie

Good evening, friends! Hope everyone is having a great Wednesday! I had to make an unexpected visit to the doctor today. Turns out, I have an ear/throat infection and thrush. Welcome to life with an autoimmune disease! I’m on a Zpack, a round of Diflucan and a Nystatin mouthwash. Yay. Needless to say, I feel awful, which is why this post is coming so late. I took a late three-hour nap this afternoon … the kind of nap that causes you to question what year it is when you wake up. Then, I took a second, hour and a half nap and woke up again about an hour ago.

Because of all of the above, I felt like a needed cheery mask. I dove into my mask collection and pulled out this one, from last month’s Target beauty box. There are still boxes available for this month. You should check them out!

20747650_10155642762039357_757512083_o

This mask smells AHHHHMAZING! It was definitely the pick-me-up I needed. Like most peelie masks, the liquid is incredibly thick and just kind of messy to deal with. Of course, it dripped everywhere while I was trying to get it on my face haha

20747899_10155642762019357_963320517_o

These types of masks always feel super weird to me while they are drying. One kinda cool thing about it: when I touched my face, I couldn’t feel it in places, once it dried. It just felt like my skin. This required 20 minutes, or until fully dry, so I just kicked back while it dried.

Removal was … different. It actually hurt a little. I’m not sure why. I didn’t apply it thick, but it really didn’t want to leave my face haha

20747905_10155642762089357_630954691_o

I tried going slowly, but that just made it worse. This had to be ripped off, just like a bandaid. Polyvinyl was the second ingredient, so I’m guessing that’s why it stung so much. Yikes, y’all. If you try this brand out, be very careful. There was also a casualty.

20747693_10155642762069357_849294207_o

If you look closely, there’s a hair in that clump of dried mask. I lose enough hair … I don’t need any help with that. To be fair, that was my fault. I applied it a bit too close to my hairline.

Final thoughts … hmmm The packaging claims this mask is hydrating. I don’t feel hydrated. My skin doesn’t feel particularly soft. It stung like crazy when I took it off. This was not my best peel-off mask experience. The only thing this mask has going for it is the scent which is very nice. If you get this mask in a box, I’d say give it a shot. If you see it and want to spend money on it? Nah … I would recommend that you pass on this one. There are plenty of peel-off masks from Freeman that don’t hurt and smell lovely. I highly recommend any of theirs.

Have you all tried this brand before? Did you have a similar experience? Lemme know! I’d love to hear your experience with it!

Midweek Mask ~ Recovering

**This post contains affiliate links. Read more about that here**

Good Wednesday, friends! I hope everyone is having a great week, so far. Mine has been … meh lol As I mentioned in a few previous posts, I did some traveling last week. Having a few chronic diseases, anything outside of my normal routine is very hard on my body. My fatigue is more pronounced, my joints hurt more, my rosacea flares, my face swells … you get the idea. Unfortunately, there isn’t much I can do to get my body back to its “normal”. As I get back into my normal routine, my body will slowly follow suit. I do have a few tricks up my sleeve, though. One is copious amounts of hot baths. The second is intensive skin care.

What that means for me is I do parts of my normal morning skin routine a few times throughout the day. Briefly, my current morning routine consists of washing with Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser, 16 Ounces, applying my current rosacea medicine, misting my face with Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater, 8 oz., slathering on generous amounts of Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb the Anti-Oxidant Super Moisturizer, 1.7 Ounce, moisturizing my eye area with Clinique All About Eyes Duo Pack ( Travel Size ) - 2x7ml/0.21oz, with a few drops of squalane oil on my dryer areas. (<< affiliate links)

What I’ve been doing since I got home is the above routine in the morning, like normal. Then, I repeat this process again, sometime around midday, with lots of spritzing my face with either the Mario Badescu mist or my PETER THOMAS ROTH - Cucumber De-Tox Balancing Essence Water Mist by Peter Thomas Roth(<< affiliate link) for an additional bump in hydration. I understand that some of these products are a bit on the spendy side, but when it comes to my skin, I have found that you definitely get what you pay for. When you have problem skin, you just cannot get by with less expensive products sometimes. I tried for years, just buying drugstore products. Some are okay, but some just make the situation much worse.

Considering the condition of my poor face skin over the last few days, I felt I really needed to break out the big guns for tonight’s mask, or should I say, masks haha

20614290_10155621332594357_632865638_n

(Sorry this is so large! When I tried to size it down, it got very blurry)

First up was the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask 5.0 ounce (<<affiliate link) I didn’t take a goofy pic with that one because you simply cannot see it. Immediately, I noticed that it was very cooling. Even several minutes into the 10-minute time, if the breeze from the ceiling fan hit my face, it was instantly cooler. I would imagine this could be stored in the fridge for an even more cooling effect, during these final days of summer. Also, the squeeze bottle I have is a deluxe sample size of 1 oz. Like the Sephora sleeping masks, there are easily three to four uses in the bottle, which is awesome. I’m not sure if you are aware of how expensive Peter Thomas Roth skincare tends to be, but it’s up there. (This particular mask is one of the least expensive I have seen from the brand.)Being able to get several uses out of this sample will really give you an idea of how well the mask works for your skin and whether it’s a worthwhile investment for you.

I wish I would have taken a pic of my face with the mask on, so you could see just how much redness it took out. That could be from rinsing with cold water, but that usually doesn’t have much effect on my rosacea. I really think it was the mask. Also, I really dislike rinsing with cold water hahaha My face has NEVER felt softer. I am sitting here, literally rubbing my face and am stunned at how nice it feels. Home run, PTR!!

On to the eye pads !

20614515_10155622557784357_1700738557_n

These things are THICK. There was so much serum in the package that it started pouring out as soon as I opened it! That was certainly a first for me. After a few minutes, the tops of my cheeks started burning, and not just a little. I remarked to a friend that I wasn’t sure I would make it the whole 20 minutes with these on. It did fade a few minutes later, thankfully. Once I removed the pads, there was no serum to pat in. My eye area sucked up every bit of serum there was hahaha Yay for an easily absorbed serum … boo for having such dry under eyes.

This is a situation that requires before and after shots.

Ummm … y’all … there is a definite difference in my eye puffiness. My left eye is significantly less puffy than it was. There seem to be less puffiness under my right eye, as well. Do you know how many eye pads I have used and how many have been total fails? Every single one. Until this one. I just knew this one would fail, too. I am tickled pink to be wrong about this one.  Just imagine, if my eyes look this much better after ONE treatment, how good they (and potentially your under eye) would look with regular use?? I am shook … as the kids in the beauty community say hahahaha You can find them from Birchbox (linked above) for $18 for five sets. If you used them once a week, that’s not too bad.

I am in love, y’all. Complete and total love, with both products. Still … forty minutes later, my face is smoother and softer than I have felt in a long, long time. While my under eye area doesn’t look perfect, it sure looks better than it did before the pads. Both of these products have earned a permanent place in my skin care routine, without a doubt.

Have you used either of these products before? What about eye pads … are there some you have used that gave you real results? Lemme know what they are!!

Mid~Week Mask ~ Luminating Lotus

Happy Wednesday, lovelies! Today has been a great day! My niece is here, slumber partying for a few days. She’s five … I wrote about her a while back. You can read about that here. She told me earlier that tonight was going to be a girl’s night out haha We won’t be going anywhere, but those are her words for having a spa night. In fact, she picked out my mask for tonight, and I hope she picked a good one!

This came in my Ipsy bag this month. An unboxing post for Ipsy and Birchbox will be coming on Thursday, so this is a bit of a sneak peek. For July, Ipsy gave their subscribers the option to choose an item for their bag, so I jumped on the Tony Moly option. In addition to this lotus mask, they included a green tea mask. YAY! Alrighty … let’s get to it!

Okay, I’m just gonna say it … Tony Moly masks are not my favorite <ducks from the K beauty lovers of the world> I was hoping this particular style would be better (which is why I was excited above.) I don’t know what it is about their serum, but it leaves my face quite sticky. The directions say to pat the serum in and leave on. Ummmm … I cannot do that. I will leave it on my skin as long as possible, but I cannot leave it on while I sleep. I would be afraid I would wake up with a break out. Because of the stickiness, I cannot tell if my skin is moisturized or not. It’s definitely not luminized (hehe). The masks aren’t awful, by any means. I’ve had some awful face masks and I’ve absolutely had worse. Would I repurchase? Ummm … no. Not when there are so many incredible K beauty skin care products out there that don’t leave me so sticky. Don’t get me wrong, Tony Moly is a great brand! Maybe it’s something in my skin that this serum clashes with. I have six or seven Tony Moly masks left that I will use, or maybe I’ll donate them. I have tried to like them. I really have! I have reviewed them before, and really focused on the positives. I am running out of positives, though. I feel so bad giving this mask a less than glowing review, but it is what it is. At least, for me and my skin, this is a miss.

What is your experience with Tony Moly masks? Do they work well with your skin? What about their other products, do they work well for you? Lemme know!

Fancy Schmancy Mask

I got an order in from Sephora the other day. Shocker, right? If you have ever ordered from them, you know they send you three samples of your choice. They are usually skin care or fragrance samples. For some reason, I got four samples. SCORE!

My extra sample was a Dior face mask. Even bigger score! The full name of this product is Dior Capture Totale Dreamskin 1-Minute Mask. Phew … that was a mouthful haha There were no directions, of course (not even on the Dior site), but Sephora came though. Basically, you massage into the skin until it turns white, then leave it on for a minute. Rinse off and bask in the glow of your skin. For real. My skin was SO soft and smooth afterward. In fact, I don’t think my skin has been that soft and smooth in years.

The bad news is two-fold. First, while the softness persisted, the smoothness did not. My skin was back to its lame, textured self with a day, or so. Second, the price. Dior is NOT an inexpensive brand, obviously. This mask is $75 for 2 oz, and they recommend using 2-3 times per WEEK. The little packet didn’t really contain enough product to cover my entire face. I did the best I could. To get enough to cover, though, a 2 oz tube will not last long. I think you’d be looking at $150 a month, for one product.

Sigh  … my bougie just isn’t that strong, y’all. A girl can dream … If yours is, though, I say go for it! I think with consistent use, this would be an excellent addition to any skin care routine.

Sheet mask a-no-no

Last night was Mid-Week Mask night and I was super excited to try the Rose Essence sheet mask, from Beyond Belief. This mask claims to replenish moisture and brighten skin, and is for all skin types. I’ve never heard of this company before, but I saw this at Sally Beauty and figured I’d give it a shot. I’ve always had great luck with other Korean skin care brands, and I figured this would be the same. I was incorrect. By a lot.

I pulled the mask out and had a very hard time unfolding it. Trouble from the get-go haha It was soaked with serum. I mean, it was dripping and slippery (slimy), which made unfolding it quite the challenge. After about five minutes (yes haha five minutes), I finally got it unfolded and on my face.

My eyes started to burn a little, so I adjusted it away from my eyes as best I could. About ten minutes in, (it’s a 20 minute mask), my skin started to burn a little. With rosacea, that’s not really uncommon. However, in all of my time using sheet masks, my face has never burned from one. I decided to stick it out; luckily, with no lasting effects. My face was pretty sticky, but I patted in the serum as best I could.

I accidentally fell asleep with the tv and all of my lights on. I woke up around 1:30am and my face felt GROSS. I went into the bathroom and my face was so shiny with serum. And STICKY!!! Keep in mind, I took the mask off around 9:45pm. It was so bad, I had to wash my face and get that stuff off of me, right then and there. I finished my skin care routine and went back to sleep. It wasn’t better when I woke up around 7:30. My face felt almost as bad as it did at 1:30! Even after washing the serum off! I washed my face again, and finally got it all off.

I am not sure what was going on with that mask, but you can bet that I will never buy another product from that company, ever again. I should have listened to my skin when it started burning. I should have paid attention when, just being near my eyes caused them to burn. I really wanted to give it a fair shot. I think I went above and beyond hahaha Thank goodness it wasn’t terribly expensive! Have you ever bought a truly awful skin care product? What were the results? Lemme know!

Carrie❤️

Midweek Mask and something cool

My original plan for this blog was to publish six days a week, with either Saturday or Sunday off. This flare is kicking my tail and messing with my publishing schedule! That’s life with a chronic disease, though. I know that and I accepted that long ago. It’s still frustrating, not being able to what I want to do, when I want to do it. I want you to know why there may be gaps of a few days with my posts, and I hope you are okay with it, too. This is, after all, a blog about looking and feeling great while dealing with chronic conditions. Sometimes, those conditions get in the way. Ugh! 😉

Now, onto the fun stuff. It’s Wednesday and that means … midweek mask!!! (Cue lively band music.) Before we get into tonight’s mask, I have some really cool news to share with you. It’s mask related, so it fits haha I have been doing midweek mask and skin care Saturdays (and some makeup reviews) on my Instagram for a while now. A few weeks ago, I received a DM from the company SOO AE Beauty. Thy make a lot of the masks I use. They make a great product, what can I say? Anyway, the message was informing me that I was chosen as a winner in a contest they run, and they needed my personal details so they could send my prize. I had no idea they were even running a contest!! I just legitimately love their products, and I always tag the companies I talk about. I want them to know what I think, ya know? Needless to say, I was stunned. My prize came a few days ago and this is what they sent:

Soo AE prize package
Check out my prize package!

How cool is that??? The pink package is an açai berry sleeping mask, and the white package is a donkey milk sleeping mask. Yes, donkey milk. It’s exactly what it says it is. Anyway, many, many thanks to SOO AE Beauty. I really love my prizes and they will be used, with much love!

Tonight’s mask was one from my prize package. I chose the Donkey Milk Gel Skin Mask. This was unlike other sheet masks I have used in the past, and I have used A LOT of them. The serum was very gel-like and thick, and the mask was kind of clear. I set the timer for 17 minutes, and had a little siesta on my couch! I’m telling, ya, 17 minutes may not sound like much, but I think it’s the perfect amount of time to kind of check-out of the real world for a bit. I think we can all use some “check-out” time every now and then. It was very cold haha, which is pretty much par for the course, I’ve found. It’s very refreshing this time of year, especially after fighting a sprinkler in the garden for 20 minutes, at 7:30pm and 92° and holy cow, is summer over yet? I’m not even kidding. Focus, girlie … focus. So, yes, very refreshing for it to be chilly. After the time was up, I patted the remaining serum in, and basked in my very moisturized skin. It stayed tacky for quite some time. It’s been about three hours and it’s still slightly tacky. I’m not sure I really like that part, so this is absolutely a mask to use before bed. And, as always, I followed up with my regular nighttime skin care routine.

Midweek mask 2 June 14 2017
I love making funny faces when I have a sheet mask on!

Gentlemen, don’t think that these masks are for women only. You men out there have face skin, too, ya know. And I daresay it needs a little more babying than our skin. You guys are ROUGH sometimes! A lot of men out there have very physically demanding jobs. Not that women don’t. Please don’t misunderstand, me. It’s a different type of physicality, oftentimes. Men, you really need to consider some type of skin care. Moisturizer and sunscreen, at the very least. Or a moisturizing sunscreen hehe. Either way, you guys really need to jump on the skin care train. Your skin has to last you for the rest of your life, too. Pssssstt … I’ll let you in a little secret. Come a little closer … a lot of women really like it when men take care of themselves. I’m not talking metrosexual levels, here. I’m talking some basic care, a little pride in yourself and your appearance.

Overall, I really like this mask, and I LOVE all of the products I have tried from this company. I dunno what it is with Korean beauty products, but they are killin’ the game, in my opinion. If you’re looking for a nourishing, restorative mask, I highly recommend this one. The price point is excellent and it works!
