Makeup Monday ~ BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 2

Happy Monday, y’all! I hope everyone is safe from Irma today. Being in SC, we’ve been spared the brunt, but we’re still getting some pretty strong winds and a ton of rain. I have family and friends in Florida and everyone is safe and sound, thankfully. Personally, I love weather like this. Not hurricanes, but cold, wet, dreary days bring me to life. Haha yeah, I’m kind of weird, and that’s totally fine by me. There’s just something about days like this that are perfect for hot tea (or caramel cappuccino hehe), snuggly clothes, fuzzy socks and a good book. I haven’t read in ages, and it’s something that I miss. There’s no reason, other than getting sucked into the black hole of YouTube. That is going to change. I am committing myself to read for at least two hours a day, starting today! Heck, I can read an entire novel in that time! Lord knows my Kindle has enough books for at least a year of reading.

Anyway, I am super excited to get back to my blog. I had entirely way too much going on while my hubby was home. When he left, I took a few days to get myself organized. I created an office space, bought a new printer and basically organized my life for living alone. So far, so good! Having a dedicated space to work has been fantastic. I actually work, instead of watching videos! I made sure to put my back to the television, and only have music on while I’m working. Now, let’s actually talk about makeup while I’m working in my fab office space haha

For some reason, blue shadows don’t look great on me, but I keep trying!! I don’t know what I think will magically change about my complexion that will make blues suddenly look fabulous, but I keep on! Since I’m wearing all blue today, I thought “what the heck, my eyes may as well match the rest of me” hehehehe And since I’m going absolutely nowhere, while a tropical storm rages outside, what better look than foiled shadows?? Ammirite??

A few weeks ago, I ordered this palette from BH Cosmetics and I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived.

They don’t look like much in the palette, but the swatches!! Gorgeous!!

21616788_10155731245564357_892799722_o

Like I said, I thought I would go for a blue look today, and boy did I!

These shadows are so pretty!! If you swirl your finger in the pan a few times, you will be impressed by how soft and buttery these shadows feel. I thought they’d feel a little rougher, being foiled, but I was wrong! They are creamier than many of the higher end shadows in my collection, that’s for sure. I tried them using a dry brush to start with, and they were shimmery, but I felt they could look better. I spritzed my brush with a bit of setting spray and the payoff was so much better!

While this is only a first impression, it made quite an impression! This palette normally retails for $12.50 here, but it’s currently on sale for $8.37. There’s a site-wide 33% off sale. Even full price, you’d be hard pressed to find 28 shadows, of similar quality, for that price. I can’t believe it, every time I see how much their shadows are. It truly boggles the mind, how they can sell their products so inexpensively. I would definitely suggest heading over to their site and loading up! There are two versions of the Foil Eyes palette, the first having some yellows and brighter blues. Whichever tickles your fancy …

Alright, y’all! Those are my thoughts on the BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 2 eye shadow palette. I say run, don’t walk, to your nearest web browser and load up! Have you tried BH Cosmetics’ products before? What were your thoughts? Lemme know!

August Faves

Happy Sunday y’all! I’m glad this week is almost over. It’s been kind of a stressful week, here. Hubby’s went back to TX this morning. He worked like a maniac to get things done here before he left. We’ve had our eyes on Hurricane Irma, and there was a lot for him to do if he was going to be gone when it made its way here. Mercy, she’s a nasty, nasty storm! I’m not a worrier, by nature, thankfully. To me, worrying just doesn’t make sense. I cannot change a thing by worrying, so it’s a waste of energy that I could be using elsewhere. If I could change things by worrying then I wouldn’t need to worry! See how that works? Haha So, we are focusing on making sure we are ready when Irma hits. Lucky for us, we won’t be getting a direct hit, just the outer bands. They are still forecasting tropical storm force winds and 4-6″ of rain, so still nothing to sneeze at. Please, please be safe if you live anywhere near the path of this storm! Heed the warnings of your local officals!

Now, on to the point of today’s post! I thought I would talk about some of my favorite products from August. Some I may have talked about here already, and some will be talked about more in depth in upcoming posts.

Skin care

Let’s talk about skin, baby! Product number one that has stolen my heart is Clinique’s All About Eyes Rich. My eye area feels amazing since I’ve been using this cream. It’s very thick and rich, as the name suggests. Talk about hydrating! I haven’t noticed much difference, as far as my fine lines, circles, or puffiness, but I think it takes several weeks to see results, and I’m pretty patient.

Product number two that I cannot live without is Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. It smells divine!! Sometimes, I just sit and smell it haha It really smells that good! I’ve missed a few applications due to getting my brows and upper lip waxed. Because of the acids in the mask, you should withhold using it the week before any facial waxing, or you could lose some skin along with your unwanted hairs. My face skin looks so good after I wash this mask off. It looks so healthy and fresh!

Makeup

I’m going to talk about these products in order of application and the first is IT Cosmetics’ Your Skin But Better CC+ This is a full coverage, color correcting cream, with SPF 50. The second ingredient, after water, is snail secretion filtrate. Not kidding, y’all haha It’s also chock full of botanical extracts, hyaluronic acid and collagen, along with some vitamins. I pick this over all of my foundations. It could be because it’s summer and it’s pretty light feeling. Whatever the reason, this is my go-to for foundation right now. The coverage is outstanding, and it still looks natural. Application looks much better on me with a sponge versus a brush, which is a bit of a bummer. I prefer a brush to soaking and wringing out a sponge, but that’s only because I’m a bit lazy hehe

Next up, are the Trolls and My Little Pony eyeshadow palettes from Pür Cosmetics. Honestly, I think I prefer the Trolls palette, only because there are more useable shades for me. The MLP palette has a yellow shimmer and a heavy gold metallic. I looked at those two and said WTF out loud. That could also have been because I really dislike the color yellow. Dunno why, but I do. The formula for these shadows is great! Nicely pigmented, easily blended and buildable. I’ll admit, I totally fell for the themes and wasn’t expecting much. I was happily proved wrong!

The final product in makeup that I’m loving from August is L’Óreal’s Lash Paradise mascara. I always use a waterproof formula and this was no exception. I don’t know what kind of hoodoo magic went into this mascara, and I don’t care. This stuff is incredible! It lengthens, volumizes, thickens and it removes fairly easily with a good eye makeup remover. It can get clumpy, but that is partly user error, I think. It doesn’t flake and I haven’t noticed any transfer. I almost always see transfer on my left eye. Only my left eye. No idea what that’s about haha, but it doesn’t happen with this mascara.

Hair Care

21616676_10155729752739357_126867937_o

I only have one thing to talk about under hair care this month, but it’s a good one. On a whim, I ordered a hair sleeping mask from Sephora. I ordered rose, because it claimed to be smoothing and anti-frizz. For some reason, I was blessed with natural frizz to go along with my natural curl. No humidity necessary. Thanks a lot, universe. Where have these masks been all of my wild, curly haired life??? Here’s how they work: you apply the mask and work it into clean, dry hair. Pile your hair onto your head, and cover with the provided cap, and go to sleep! When you wake up, rinse your hair and you will have the softest, curliest and frizz-free hair when it dries! Talk about being shook … I immediately ordered five more and this will be a weekly routine for me. They are $6 and worth every. single. penny.

Self Care

21584385_10155728653659357_685626074_o

Above all else, self care is the most important, in my opinion. Taking care of me helps me be on top of my game, whatever my game might be. I’ve talked about my autoimmune disease and the chronic pain it causes. Some days, my pain meds aren’t enough. That’s where Essential Relaxtions comes in. They are a bath bomb company out of FL, but they are so much more: candles, wax melts, mineral baths … if it has the potential to relax you, they sell it.

I am a dedicated fan of their bath bombs. They are well sized, very fizzy, well scented, soften the bath water like crazy and the are incredibly well priced!! In fact, I don’t think they sell a thing over $10. They are every bit as good as Lush. Even better, if you ask me, because of the price. The only drawback is shipping time. It takes a little over a week from the time you place your order until you receive it. However, I believe that is because they make the bombs when you order them, and I’m okay with that. I just have to make sure I have one or two set aside when I order, so I am never without. I’m not even kidding, they are that good. I consider myself a bit of a bath product afficianado and these bath bombs are where it’s at. Heck, they were even featured by BuzzFeed! You can find their products here. Check them out on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter @essentialrelaxx and they even have a YouTube channel where you can see the bombs in action! Also, enter CARRIE15 at checkout for a 15% discount on your order! It’s not an affiliate code, just a cool thing the company is offering for my followers!

Alrighty lovelies, I think that’ll do it for my August faves. What products did you come across last month that you can’t live without? Lemme know!

Makeup Monday ~ Eye shadow fun

Happy Monday! Y’all are not going to believe the last few days! My hubby and I have been busting tail to get all kinds of projects done around the house, that I simply cannot do by myself. I have been falling asleep at an insanely early hour, compared to my usual. My husband’s company called today and told him he would not be returning to Texas on Wednesday, which was the original plan. The area he was working was hit quite hard by Hurricane Harvey. Thank goodness he came home when he did! My thoughts are with everyone in Texas today, and in the coming weeks. Living in a coastal state, I know what they will be dealing with.

I have gotten several deliveries over the last few days, so I thought I would play with some eye shadows today. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone, as far as colors go. Here’s what I played with today:

Aren’t these some awesome colors?? Also, can you believe I have never used NYX or BH Cosmetics‘ eye shadows before today. Crazy, right? And considering how well these shadows performed, I can’t believe it took me this long!

I used the matte coral/orange color in the NYX palette, and the foiled orange from BH. I also ran the foiled orange under my lower lash line. The matte shadow blended out incredibly well. I had to apply the foiled shadow with a dampened brush, but that’s not at all unusual. I never thought my skin tone looked great with warm colors, but I was wrong! It actually makes my skin look more tan than it actually is, which is zero tan hahahaha I don’t love how my eyes look with liner in my waterline, but today was all about stepping outside my comfort zone.

Considering this is a first impression review, I am highly impressed!! The NYX shadow blended sooooo well!! The foiled shadow was quite easy to apply, both on the lid and under the lower lashes. Why have I waited so long to try these shadows!! I could have avoided a lot of heartache (and saved a ton of money) if I had tried these sooner. I came across BH Cosmetics from Taylor from the YouTube channel ThaTaylaa. She’s one of my favorite influencers and she talks about BH products a lot. (Keep your eyes peeled for a first impression review of another BH palette soon!)

Have y’all tried these brands before? Did you have a similiar experience? Lemme know!

Makeup Monday ~ elf Beautifully Bare Lash Tint

Hello, lovelies! Welcome to a new week! My week has already started out swell … I had to take my truck back to the shop. It had been in the shop for well over a week, and I was so excited to get her back Friday. Until I got down the road. So, back she went today! I really hope it’s a quick fix, because my daughter leaves in just over a week, and we have lots of errands to run between now and then. Since this was a quick trip to town, I did some quick makeup.

elf almost always has a “free gift with purchase” deal going on. I LOVE that they do that! I gives me the opportunity to try products that I might not normally go for. That had to be how their Beautifully Bare Lash Tint, in Naked Noir, ended up in my collection. I scoured the elf website and I could not find it anywhere!

20884027_10155656426339357_501924444_o

I think my lashes are decent, without any product on them. They aren’t the worst I’ve seen, for sure. Here’s what they look like without anything:

20862509_10155656426374357_383905307_o

Haha well, you really can’t see them, can you? I have some, I swear! Like I said, I was just running to town to drop my truck off at the repair shop, so no need for full glam. I did try out some different shades in the Trolls palette from PÜR Cosmetics. (I am really having some thoughts about this palette, so look for my thoughts on that in an upcoming post.) Imagine my surprise when I pulled the wand out and saw this:

20841536_10155656426349357_286417556_o

Ummm … whaaatttt??? This is not marketed as a lower lash product. Just so you have some perspective, this is the elf wand next to the L,Oréal Lash Paradise wand:

20861029_10155656426234357_10171521_o

Insane, right? There is no way, this teeny tiny wand is going to do anything for my upper lashes. Because I already had this weird little thing out, I was committed. Here’s the result, y’all:

20839945_10155656426274357_1181590102_o

I am actually pretty impressed!! Now, to be fair, it’s not really a mascara, but a lash tint. It sure performed like a mascara, though! My lashes are definitely lengthened and fanned out a little. It didn’t do much in the way of adding volume, but I don’t think that was part of the deal. Tint does just that, tints whatever you put it on. I think what it did do was already going above and beyond any expectations I had.

I’m pretty glad the people at elf chose this product for my “free gift with purchase”. I never, ever would have chosen a lash tint before this. Score one for the folks at elf!! What do you guys think? Have you ever used a lash tint? Did you see good results? Lemme know!

This week in makeup news Aug 8 – Aug 13

Hello dear friends! Welcome to the newest addition to the Look Good, Feel Good lineup! Sundays will be for posting makeup related news, new releases, etc. Without further ado, let’s jump right in!

ColourPop is coming to Sephora!! According to sources, the low, low prices we all love will NOT go up. Look for this awesome brand to hit shelves sometime in November. Also in Colourpop news, the popular Fem Rosa palette will restock on Aug 17 at 10am PST, 1pm EST, for $16. If you have been wanting this palette as much as I have, do not wait! Set an alarm on your phone if you need to. The Yes, Please palette restocked on Thursday and sold out almost immediately. This will probably be the same. The website is currently running a special on their Bring The Heat collection. Buy any two single items in the collection, get one free!

Kat Von D News!! The new Shade + Light Creme Contour palette is available online now and retails for $49 at Sephora and the Kat Von D Beauty website. The palette is refillable. This will be on shelves Aug 25. Also available now from Kat Von D Beauty is a line of cruelty free, vegan brushes. Face brushes range in price from $24-$38. There only seems to be two eye brushes listed, Glimmer Effect Eye Brush #50 ($24) and Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush ($27). All products from Kat Von D beauty are cruelty free and a lot are vegan. This very busy lady also unveiled her new line of liquid lippies, Everlasting Glimmer Veil  Glitter Lipstick. These are hugely pigmented and gorgeous! One shade, Reverb, is available now. The other eight launch Aug 22.

Wet n Wild’s new Midnight Mermaid collection hits Ulta on Aug 13, which is today! This 12-piece collection is loaded with metallic liquid eye shadows, lippies, eyeliner and a Mega Glo highlight bar, complete with a mermaid tail pressed into the product. The collection goes live on Wet n Wild’s website Aug 14. I just checked on my Ulta app, though, and I don’t see anything mermaid-y from Wet n Wild. Every source I have checked says it’s launching today at Ulta … I wonder if there has been a delay?

The Dose of Colors Desi x Katy Collection goes live Aug 14. If you like sparkle, this is the collab for you! The collection includes two liquid matte lipsticks, two lipsticks, a liploss, and eyeshadow quad and two highlights. You can get the collection here.

Ciaté is releasing an innovative new liquid lipstick line called Glitter Flip, on Aug 15. From what I can tell, it goes on like a normal liquid lipstick. Leave it to dry for two minutes, then press your lips together. According to the website, this activates the glitter and you now have a full coverage glitter lip! You can also run your finger over your lips to activate. This interesting product will come in seven dazzling shades and can be ordered here.

eos has released another innovative product … transparent vegan lip balm! Available in two flavors, Hibiscus Peach and Vanilla Orchid, these products are exactly what they sound like. The are a crystal clear balm, in eos’ signature shape and packaging. Called Crystal Lip Balm, it is currently sold out on their website, but can be found Walmart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens, for around $5.50.

Juvia’s Place has released multicolored brushes and they are available now! The brushes look a little like Neapolitan ice cream haha They offer a 3-piece face set for $18 and a 5-piece eye set for $15.

Urban Decay has expanded their already expansive Vice lipstick line by adding 15 new shades to the collection. Basically, there are no details, except this sneak peek photo on their Instagram feed. They are pretty, so stay tuned for more details!

Huda Beauty Textured Shadows palette in Rose Gold is back in stock at Sephora. However, this palette is being discontinued this October. The $65 palette is currently available at Sephora and the Huda Beauty site. Despair not, though. The new Desert Dusk palette has several similar shades.

Good news if you participate in Sephora’s Beauty Insider rewards program! Now through Aug 19, you can earn more points with your purchase. Beauty Insiders will receive twice the bonus points per order, VIB members will earn 3-times and VIB Rouge members will receive 4-times the points. You don’t have to do anything extra, just order as usual and the extra points will be applied! Also happening, from now until Nov 1, they will be running Weekly Wow. Each week, various products will be offered at significant savings. Thanks, Sephora ♥♥

Ulta is also running a points promotion now, as well! If you participate in their Ultamate Rewards program, now through Aug 19, members will receive 2x the points on all purchases. Platinum members will receive 3x the points! Also, earn 5x the points on select lip purchases and on all No. 7 brand purchases! As always, there’s a $3.50 off your order of $15 or more coupon, located in the app. It can be used online or in stores. Thanks, Ulta ♥♥

Phew! So what do you think of the newest addition the blog? I think I’m liking it! What do y’all think of the new releases? What important news did I miss? I’m certain there was plenty that I missed hahaha Lemme know what you think!

Hey Hey, It’s Sephora Play!

Well, technically, it’s Play! by Sephora, but that wouldn’t rhyme! Happy Friday, lovelies! I hope you all have had a wonderful week! Mine certainly got better at the end. I got three deliveries, one from Sephora, one from Pur Cosmetics, and one from Macy’s. We’ll be talking about all of those next week. When I checked my mail today, I was shocked to see my Play! by Sephora box inside. That box usually doesn’t come until later in the month and it’s never gotten here before Ipsy or Birchbox! YAY!

This is my third month with this subscription service, and I’m pretty pleased so far. I’m quite happy with all of my subscriptions, to be honest. I love being able to try out a product, with minimal investment. If I don’t like it, it’s not a big deal, and there have been some products that just weren’t my cup of tea. Overall, though, everything has been great. One thing I particularly like about Sephora’s service is you get five deluxe samples plus a fragrance sample. I’ve become a bit of a perfume junkie lately, and this is a GREAT way to find new scents. In fact, I have found a few new fragrances that I cannot live without now … looking at you Versace Bright Crystal!!

Let’s jump on in!

For starters, how flipping cute is this bag??? And I love that they used the Periodic Table to talk about beauty ingredients! As always, you get 50 free Beauty Insider points with purchase, but they have to be used in-store. That’s a big bummer if you don’t have a store nearby. I think one was recently built in our JC Penny store, but I haven’t been there in ages. Guess I should go and check it out! Also, these points are not good forever. They expire on the last day of the month after you get your bag. In other words, these 50 points I got with my August box expire September 30th.

Lets dig into these goodies, shall we?

Starting with skin items, there’s a mini Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation stick in the shade Shell ($46). It looks light enough for my skin tone, so YAY! Next up is Korres Golden Krocus Ageless Saffron Elixir Serum ($98/1oz). This is something I am SUPER excited about! It looks very glittery in the bottle, but doesn’t seem to be too much on the skin. I just had to put a drop on the back of my hand, once I saw it haha It smells wonderful!! This has actual Greek saffron and, from what the paperwork says, it takes 150 Krocus flowers in order to produce one gram of saffron. Finally, we have the beautyblender micro.mini sponge applicator ($18). These are the perfect size for concealer, and maybe using a damp sponge will keep my under eye area from looking so dried out and crease-y.

20813471_10155647537224357_2096950447_o

I’m not really a huge fan of the hair products that come in these boxes. Most are texturizing sprays or volumizing sprays. My hair has plenty of both haha and sprays just make my hair out of control or sticky. This spray from Alterna Haircare, Caviar Anti-Aging Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist ($30/4.8oz) is both volumizing AND texturizing, so it should be interesting! This has a wonderful citrus scent, so I will definitely try it out. I’m just not going to have high hopes hahaha

20793810_10155647537354357_217898410_o

This is an interesting product, Clinique’s HIM Dual-Ended High Impact Mascara & Primer Duo. This must only come as a mini, because I cannot find it on the Sephora website anywhere. I have never used a lash primer before, and this claims to be moisturizing, which I could probably use. I try to only use waterproof mascara (watery eyes and living in the South haha) and that has to be hard on lashes. It also says using the primer will create more a more vibrant and longer lasting eye look. I am looking forward to seeing what effect this will have on my mine!

Finally, we have my favorite part of the Play! bag:

20793652_10155647537334357_1239249563_o

I had to laugh when I read the description of My Burberry Black ($72/1oz) … “inspired by the iconic Burberry trench coat” What??? It features a blend of jasmine, candied rose and amber. How do those scents jive with a trench coat, exactly? It also has peach and patchouli. Don’t get me wrong, it smells incredible. I just don’t understand how a trench coat was the inspiration for the scent hahaha

So, that’s my August Play! bag. This service is $10 a month and I think it’s well worth that price. If I went out and bought full sizes of these products (not including the Clinique duo), the total cost would be $264. What do you think? Do you subscribe to any of these boxes? Which ones are your favorites? Lemme know!

Try~It Tuesday: NYX Black Eye Shadow Base

Good afternoon, friends! I hope everyone is doing well! Today is a pretty lazy day here on the homestead. We’re in for some stormy weather today, so I’m just hanging out inside, watching my favorites on YouTube. Do you guys watch YouTube much? It literally sucks me right in, and I can get lost for hours haha I mainly watch beauty channels, but I also sub to some culture, science and history channels. It’s sooo easy to get lost, which means I usually don’t realize the time or just how much time I’ve wasted. Is it really wasted time if you enjoy yourself, though?

Back when I fist got into makeup, there was just basic makeup. There were no primers, no CC or BB creams, no highlighters, no mattifying products and I had never heard of contouring. There were the basics: foundation, powder, eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and lipsticks and glosses. Sometimes, I am literally amazed at all there is on offer at places like Sephora and Ulta. Even Walmart and Walgreen’s blow my mind! Imagine the level of mind blown-ness when I happened upon a black eye shadow base, one day at Walgreen’s. Basically, it’s a product worn under eye shadow that is supposed to deepen and enrich the color worn on top. What an ingenious way to take a daytime look and turn it into evening, without having to buy several palettes! You can just buy this, and use your current collection! Sorry, makeup companies haha

Before we get started, I will be testing this out on my arms today. I think it might be easier to see just how much this product changes (or doesn’t) what is put on top. Alright, let’s get started, y’all!

This stuff is sticky!! I would recommend applying with your finger. Trying to use a brush might be messy and cause it to apply unevenly. I tried with a brush, initially, and it was a sticky mess. Once on, give it a minute or two to set, then go in! It works better with metallic shades, from what I can tell.

20727427_10155639497569357_700995400_o

I used five shadows, from five different companies, to see how each reacted.

20707326_10155639497649357_755616524_oFrom top to bottom, I used ColourPop’s Tiny Tangerines (why does a teal color have tangerine in the name??), Maybelline’s ColorTatoo Concentrated Crayon in Lilac Lust, the peachy/pink shade in elf’s Island Breeze Ultra Pigment Cushion palette (part of their Aqua Beauty line), OFRA’s single eye shadow in Victory, and finally from tarte’s Swamp Queen palette, I used the shade Dogman. All of these shades are great, but I did not have high hopes for the elf shade. It barely showed up on my skin!

And these are the shades after applying on top of the shadow base:

20707265_10155639497599357_705814287_o

And let’s do a side-by-side comparison:

The metallic shades … whoa! It’s a bit hard to see in the after pic, but the Maybelline crayon turned a very deep purple. Dogman looks a bit muddy but workable, and that elf shade … I don’t even know what that did, but it wasn’t good. That being said, it’s best to see how different shades and finishes react. I like the ColouPop transformation the best. It became so rich and deep!! You can see how easy it is to transform an eye shadow, without doing much!

These bases come in four shades: black, nude, white and white pearl. You can see what black does, white causes a brilliant pop, white pearl will give shadows a pearl finish, and nude enhances the shadow color, but not as much as the white shades. The NYX website has these for $7, which isn’t bad at all, considering they can double or triple your eye shadow collection. I picked mine up at my local Walgreen’s, like I said above, but I don’t remember how much it was.

So what do you guys think? Have you tried an eye shadow base before? Will you after seeing what they can do? I’m pretty interested in getting the white base and seeing how that changes these same shadows. Maybe for another Try~It Tuesday? Haha lemme know your thoughts on these bases!

Makeup Monday ~ Ciate Liquid Velvet

Good evening friends! I hope everyone is off to a great start for the new week! I started my week with a trip to a new doctor … yay. Haha can you hear the enthusiasm? Aside from that, it’s been an okay Monday. I did get a prize in the mail today that I was pretty excited to see! About a week or two ago, Ipsy emailed and asked if I would be interested in ordering a liquid lipstick from Ciate London. Ispy has started a new program called Ispy Shopper. It’s a pretty cool marketplace for full size products from such brands as MAC, GLAMGLOW, Josie Maran, and others. Each product has a certain cash back percentage. I ordered this Ciaté Liquid Velvet for $19.00, plus I am getting $10.70 back in Ipsy Cash, plus an additional $5 for it being my first Ipsy Shopper order. Basically, this liquid lipstick cost me $4. I’d say that’s a great deal for Ciaté!

Let’s talk about this liquid lipstick.20707081_10155636783024357_138389440_o

I will start off by saying that I am usually not a fan of liquid lipstick formulas. They are either incredibly drying, or oddly sticky until they dry. This formula is neither. It is actually quite comfortable.

This color, which is called Chatterbox, is actually much darker than it’s showing in the picture. When I opened the package, I was put off because it appears very purple. My sister, who tends to wear the funkier colors, even remarked about how purple it is. This lead to another concern. Darker colors, in my experience, tend to apply patchy or streaky. This also did neither. All of my previous experience with liquid lipstick is being turned on its head with this formula, Ciaté! That’s a good thing! Because of my previous experience, I have actively avoided matte formulas. These Liquid Velvet lipsticks have changed all of that!

Look y’all, I actually do have hair! LOL It dawned on me that every photo of myself that I have posted, my hair is pulled back in a bun. Okay, back to the lippie … This applied much more in the berry family, than purple. I was very thankful for that. I don’t think purple is a flattering color for my lips, or skin tone. It didn’t go on patchy or streaky. I was able to rub my lips together, to evenly distribute the product … something else that is nearly impossible for me to do with matte formulas.

Now for some not so fantastic news …

After thirty minutes of drying time, it is not transfer-proof. Now, it doesn’t claim specifically to be transfer-proof. It does say that it offers “kissable colour with extreme hold”. I don’t really know how to interpret that, other than maybe transfer-resistant haha This product also contains hyaluronic acid, which is an ingredient in skin care products that attracts moisture, meaning this product should not dry out your lips like a lot of other matte liquid lipsticks. It also claims to be highly pigmented (umm yep!). It comes in 14 shades, from nudes to actual purple!

All in all, I am pretty impressed with this formula. It’s quite creamy, it doesn’t suck every bit of moisture from your lips, it apples well, the color is pretty cool … what isn’t to love?

What is your experience with matte liquid lipsticks? Love ’em or hate ’em? Lemme know!

Bougie on a Budget ~ Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick

Happy Friday, friends! Whoo hoo, I don’t know about you guys, but I am thankful for the weekend! I’ve had lots of errands this week, so I am glad to have a few days of nothing. For today’s Bougie on a Budget, let’s talk about rewards programs. Any opportunity you have to join a store, or brand’s, rewards program, you should do it. They are usually free and, depending on how often you shop, can pay off pretty quickly. Today, we’re going to talk about Sephora’s rewards program, Beauty Insider.

Sephora offers three levels of rewards, Insider, Very Important Beauty, and VIB Rouge. When you first join, everyone starts as an Insider. At this level, participants receive a birthday gift, access to the rewards bazaar, access to the Beauty Insider community and free beauty classes. Once you spend $350 in a calendar year, you get upgraded to VIB. Benefits include everything from Insider, plus monthly gifts, and one free custom makeover. Should you spend $1000 at Sephora in a year, you get everything from Insider and VIB plus free 2-day shipping, access to a private hotline, and invitations to exclusive events.

I think I order a lot from Sephora, and I am $43 away from VIB status. I am pretty excited about that! I’m quite curious as to the monthly gifts, honestly. This is Bougie on a Budget, after all haha You also get a complimentary VIB welcome kit when you upgrade to that level. The best thing about being part of the rewards program, though, is access to the Rewards Bazaar. For every dollar you spend, you are awarded points. When you place an order, you have the option of cashing in those points for deluxe-sized products. Every month, the products change, and they are not cheesy products. They are high quality, often high-end, luxury brand products. There are different products for different amounts of points. This month, for 100 points each, you can get Sephora Collection LashCraft Big Volume Mascara, Tatcha The Water Cream, CoverFX Custom Enhancer Drops, MIU MIU L’eau Bleue, Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel, REN Keep Young and Beautiful™ Instant Firming Beauty Shot, Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick, Tocca Stella, Make Up Forever Aqua XL Color Paint Shadow, YSL Mon Paris Eau de Parfum, and Prada Candy Gloss. For 250 points each, the choices are Urban Decay Perfect Prep Set, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense, L’Occitane Dream Moisturizing Duo, and a Sephora Polka Dot Tote. At 500 points each, the options are bareMinerals Best of bareMinerals, Tarte Skin Heroes Discovery set, First Aid Beauty Beauty Script, Alterna Haircare Caviar Anti-Aging, Dr. Brandt Skincare Polish & Plump, and Amika Treat, Style, Extend. At the 750-2500 points each level, they offer a Josie Maran Dream Big set. At 3000-4500, the choice is an Urban Decay Aspiring Artist Starter Kit. From 5000-15000, the offering is WildFox Sole X WildFox Dutch Bicycle … a bicycle AND perfume! For anything over 20,000 points, the offering is a trip for two to Verb Southwest Fest, in Austin. This reward includes round trip airfare for two to Austin, TX, three nights’ hotel accomodations, two three-day VIP passes to Austin City Limits (including food and beverage), meet and greet with Verb founding team, and a Verb goodie bag, valued at $200. WOW, Y’ALL!!! I’ll never save up enough point for something like that, but I think it’s pretty awesome that they have such a wide range of rewards.

Phew … that was a lot of background info to talk about the awesome Bougie on a Budget “purchase”. Last month, Sephora offered Givenchy’s Rouge Interdit satin lipstick, in the shade Fuscia-In-The-Know.

Yes, it’s a small lippie haha, but it’s a free Givenchy lipstick. Free makes any size worth it, in my book. This is a very bright, beautiful color.

It went on so smooth, and is so creamy and light!! (Look at those lashes btw, y’all ♥♥) It dries down just a little bit, giving it a semi-matte appearance. It is not transfer-proof, though, and performs just like any normal lipstick. It does have some staying power, though. Wish I could say the same for that eyeliner today haha

Being long wearing is one of the claims, but there isn’t a whole lot left after 2 ½ hours. I did eat a snack, and I’ve been drinking through a straw for most of that time. It’s certainly not the worst, as far as staying power. It is very comfortable, and my lips felt very hydrated when applied. They still feel pretty good.

I am very happy with my very free, very bougie lipstick. This line retails for $34. Is it worth $34?? Hmm … no. Aside from the name, there isn’t anything really special about this lippie. If I can get another for free, though, I will jump on that offer.

Do you have a favorite rewards program? What kind of cool products did you get? Let me know all about it!

Makeup Mondays ~ ColourPop Gemini by Midnight

Good Monday, lovelies! I am back!! Thank you for understanding that I was simply unable to get any posts up while I was gone. Funerals are a crappy way to reconnect with loved ones, but I am so glad I went. Aside from the circumstances, I had a wonderful time seeing everyone. When someone has been in your life for thirty years, they are no longer friends. They are bona fide family. Keeping in touch before the days of social media, heck, even before the internet, is no easy feat haha but we did it. Her parents have been more my parents than my own were. Sorry to ramble, but thank you for understanding that my attention needed to be on them over the last few days.

Right before I left, I got an awesome package from ColourPop. Literally, as I was leaving my driveway haha I have never used any of their shadows or lip products before. I got an eyeliner once in an Ipsy bag and I loved it. I have heard nothing but good things about their products over the last few months, so I decided to take the plunge. I ordered three palettes, but today, I am reviewing the collaboration with Sonya Esman, called Gemini by Midnight.

These are pressed powder shadows, and they are soooo soft and creamy. They almost feel cool to the touch.

20542917_10155616646259357_797412206_o

I am aging a bit, (just a bit haha), and my eyelids can cause shadows to skip a little and be difficult to blend, because the skin isn’t as tight as it used to be. Not with these shadows! They glide onto the skin with incredible ease and blend out amazingly well.

I did a very quick, rushed look today, as we were running late for an appointment … shocker, right? haha I used Golden Gate Bridge as a transition shade, Manhattan Coffee Run for my crease, and Moscow Sunrise for my lid. These pictures were taken about seven hours after I applied and I did not use a lid primer. I’d say they look pretty good!

Overall, these are great shadows. I think ColourPop removed this palette from their website, because I cannot find it on there now. However, you should be able to recreate the palette with the names given above. You can create your own palettes, as they sell their shades individually, as well as curated palettes. I paid $12 for four shadows, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The pigmentation is outstanding for the price, or any price, for that matter. As I said above, my eyelids are no longer as firm as they were when I was 20, so shadows can be tricky, especially when I am in a hurry and I need them to cooperate. This formula was incredibly cooperative, and I can only imagine how they will look when I’m not in a hurry! I’m not sure how this company can create such great quality products at such low prices, but I’m sure glad they figured it out!! They have also come out with brushes and concealers! The buzz surrounding that announcement was huge and they are finally live. The concealers are $6 and they are completely sold out. Brushes range in price from $11 to $5, and I cannot wait to try them out!!

Have you tried ColourPop Cosmetics products before? What are your thoughts about the quality? What was your experience? Have you used other indie brands that perform just as well? Lemme know!
