Skin Care Sunday ~ Boscia Makeup Breakup

Y’all … it has been a while! Does it ever seem that when one not-so-great thing happens, several not-so-great things follow suit? That’s been my life over the last few weeks. Nothing terribly major, just annoyances that have kept me away. I am crossing my fingers they are behind me and I can FINALLY get back to writing and giving y’all useful (I hope) information! So, let’s just jump right in!

I have tested several makeup removers in my time blogging. Some have been okay, some not so okay, and one or two have been good. There are several posts, but I will link my battle between Clinique and Lancôme here. There, I thought I found my holy grail remover in Lancôme. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good. Very good. However, using a cotton round (or anything really) causes friction on my upper cheeks. Not only is my skin very dry on the tops of my cheeks, it’s pretty sensitive. That friction would cause my cheeks to burn for quite some time. I couldn’t avoid it, even being super careful.

This sent me on a journey to find a different style of remover. Now, if you have read my blog for a while, you know how much I love Boscia products. I was browsing my local Sephora and, of course, I found myself in the Boscia section. There I spotted a tiny bottle of cleansing oil. I had heard of “double cleansing”, but never tried that method before. Basically, it’s using a cleansing oil to break down your makeup, then cleansing again with a facial cleanser designed for your particular skin needs. (Could I say “cleanse” any more haha)

There is so much power packed into this tiny bottle, y’all! It has a wonderful minty scent and is quite cooling. I’ll share my pics, then I’ll talk about it:

Alrighty … the pic on the top left is before any makeup removal began. Note my eyes are quite dark, and I was wearing waterproof mascara. The bottom left is after twenty or so seconds of massaging the oil into my eye area. I used about a pump and a half, pumped onto my fingers. I rubbed my fingers together, then began working the product into my eyes. Please close your eyes, haha! After I took that photo, I immediately used a cotton round and wiped my eyes clean. The final photo is after the second cleansing … all squeaky clean!

I have NEVER been so impressed by a product, and I have worked with a lot of products over my time as a blogger. It immediately goes to work breaking down the toughest of products … waterproof mascara. Because summers are so doggone hot here, waterproof mascara is almost a must, unless the panda look is in hehe Anyone who has worked with waterproof products knows just how hard they can be to remove. I have seriously never seen a product make such quick work of removing makeup before! Twenty seconds … that’s it! Sephora seems to only have the mini (1.7oz), which is what I have, and it can be purchased for $10. When I run out, you can bet I will be purchasing the full size (5oz) from Boscia for $32. They are currently offering 15% your entire purchase, but it expires 3/19, so hurry!

There you have it. This is absolutely my new holy grail makeup remover! Have any of you used it before? Like it, or leave it? Lemme know!

Try~It Tuesday ~ Battle of the Drugstore Makeup Wipes

** This post contains affiliate links. You can read my disclosure here.**

Good Tuesday, lovelies! I hope everyone is having a glorious day! Mine has been … meh. I woke up with back spasms, which is always fun. I love starting my day with muscle relaxers … said no one ever haha It’s all good, though. It has worked itself out. As you may know, I have been on the hunt for a makeup remover that I can use while being lazy hahahaha I’ve tried a few, and none have been mind blowing. I don’t want to keep my bottle of Lancôme Bi-Facil and a pack of cotton rounds sitting on my coffee table. My coffee table is my space where I keep everything I may need. When I’m having bad days, I need everything within reach, and my coffee table is perfect for that. It holds meds, tissues, magazines, lotions, lip balms … haha anything I could possibly need is all right there. Even when I’m having good days, it isn’t always easy to move around. I have had to restructure my life, in order to make things easier for me, and this is one of those things.

Anyway, I happened to be in the drug store a couple of weeks ago, and I saw the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Waterproof Makeup Remover Wipes, All Skin Types, 25 ct.(<< affiliate link) I have heard great things about micellar water, but I’ve never tried it before, so I grabbed these wipes. After I got home, I realized I had received a travel pack of Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes & Wipes, Fragrance Free, 25 Count, 2 Packs (<<affiliate link) in last month’s Target beauty box, just glaring at me from the shelf. Do I see a battle looming?? Oh yes … that afternoon, the Battle of the Drugstore Makeup Removers was born!

Here’s how the battle went down:

I had a full face of makeup on. Blue eyeshadow and waterproof mascara … it was a serious makeup day. My face makeup seems to have disappeared haha, but the eye makeup is still there!

I used one wipe per eye, and I timed how long it took to completely remove my eye makeup. First, let’s talk about the Neutrogena wipes. I don’t know what sort of material they use for these wipes, but it’s horrible, at least on my skin. It 100% feels like sandpaper on my eyes and the tops of my cheeks. I had to actually scrub my eye area, which is never a good idea. On top of that, check this out:

That time is a LONG time to be scrubbing the eye area with something so abrasive. My skin burned and was so red and inflamed after using these wipes. My daughter can use these wipes with no problem, so she was happy to get a free pack of wipes haha

On to the Garnier wipes … This material is so much softer. They are still a tad irritating, but that is because the skin on my eye and cheek bone area is very sensitive. Just about everything is going to be irritating and I recognize that. These were much less irritating than the Neutrogena. So what about its makeup removing ability?

That is a significant difference in time, especially when you have sensitive skin. It took less than two minutes to remove every bit of my eye makeup. I did not feel as though I had to scrub, just gentle wiping. My skin did not burn and did not look like I had the worst sunburn ever.

I think it’s pretty clear which product won this battle. Congratulations, Garnier! I have been using these wipes to remove my makeup since this battle. On its own, I am still on the fence, as far as how these make my skin feel. Having sensitive skin really stinks, sometimes. However, the Garnier wipes beat the Neutrogena wipes without question.

What do y’all think? Do you have a favorite drug store makeup wipe? How is it on your skin? Lemme know, y’all!

Try~It Tuesday ~ Almay Eye Makeup Remover Pads

**This post contains affiliate links**

Happy Tuesday, everyone! I hope everyone is having a good week so far. Mine is meh … haha I never do anything very interesting. Every day is just kind of the same. Not that I mind, because I don’t. I love living a quiet, low-key life. I’m pretty sure I have talked about being on the hunt for the best lazy girl eye makeup remover. I want to be able to chill out on my couch and take my makeup off while watching tv. I’m still looking, and I am hoping I have found it! Today, I am trying out  Almay Longwear & Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Pads, 80 Count (<<affiliate link) According to the packaging, this is America’s #1 eye makeup remover brand. Ummm … that’s a pretty bold claim!

I started out with a relatively normal amount of eye makeup: shadow, liner and waterproof mascara. It had been on my eyes for nearly nine hours, which means most of the shadow is probably gone. It means nothing for the mascara, though haha

The very first thing I noticed was these pads have no smell whatsoever, which is great for those who may be sensitive to smells and fragrances. The second thing I noticed is they are incredibly oily. That’s not really a bad thing, since oil is what breaks the waterproof bonds. It may be bad if you drop one of these pads on your clothing or furniture, though.

Round One:

Let me just say that I didn’t think I had on that much makeup today. This pad was unable to remove everything, only using one pad. I rubbed this on my eye for a minute or two, at least. When I use either Clinique’s Take the Day Off makeup remover for Lids, Lashes and Lips, or Lancôme’s Bi-Facil Double Action Eye Makeup Remover, it only takes one pad. (Read about the head to head battle between these two removers here.) It also doesn’t seem to take as much rubbing on my delicate eye area.

Round two:

The second go-round seemed to remove everything. It still took a few minutes of rubbing, and my eye area started to sting pretty quickly after starting with the second pad. Not great. I’m not sure I understand why this is proving such a challenge for these pads. I’m wearing a basic eye shadow and a drug store waterproof mascara.

Sigh, it looks like my search for the lazy girl eye makeup remover continues. Granted, these pads aren’t terribly expensive. However, if I have to use two pads per eye, every time I want to remove my eye makeup, these just became twice as expensive in my book. That means four pads per makeup removal, or twenty days worth, if I wear makeup every day. I’m not even getting a full month’s supply! Not to mention, four to five minutes of rubbing, per eye. These Almay pads are definitely not in the same category as Lancôme or Clinique, but both of those brands worked so much better. Almay is claiming to be America’s #1 brand of eye makeup remover, and I am taking issue with that claim. These certainly aren’t the worst I’ve ever tried, but they are far from the best.

What say you all? Have you tried these Almay wipes before? Did they perform better for you? What is your ride or die eye makeup remover? Lemme know!
