Makeup Monday ~ Jaclyn Hill x Morphe palette

Happy Monday, y’all! Hope everyone had a restful weekend. Mine was … interesting. My niece spent several days with me, and went home today. Not sure how many of you have five-year olds running around, but getting anything accomplished is a feat I have not mastered hahaha On top of that, I had insane lower back spasms. Sitting upright, for any length of time, was excruciating. Thankfully, I had “recovered”, just in time to get my niece home and run 5,000 errands, including taking my truck back to the transmission shop. I have been dealing with transmission woes since July. I am quite ready to not have any more transmission troubles, or any troubles, of any kind haha

I thought I would talk to you all today about the Jacklyn Hill x Morphe eyeshadow palette today. I know it’s a bit late, but it took forever to actually get my hands on it. To me, there is simply no excuse for them to have run out of stock three or four times now. That’s a shady way for companies to build hype around a product, and it works. They could have easily estimated how many units to order. Consider the difference between this release and the Fenty Beauty release. For the most part, anyone who wanted any of the Fenty Beauty products had no problems getting what they wanted, when it was released. The Jaclyn Hill collab? Each release sold out within twenty minutes. Four times. I really dislike that sort of shady deal, but it was incredible effective.

Let’s talk about the palette. It’s a very generous palette, with 35 shades, with each pan weighing in at about 1.6 grams. It retails for $38, exclusively on the Morphe website, and dontcha know, it’s actually in stock!! Snark aside, the palette rings up at around 92¢ per pan. Honestly, I don’t know of any reputable brand (maybe elf) that sells eyeshadows that inexpensively.

It is a beautiful palette. Just about any shade you could want, it’s got it. It very much favors the warmer spectrum, with lots of neutrals. There are, though, enough pops of color to be appealing to just about anyone. From what I can tell, there are 16, possibly 15, matte shades 2, maybe 3, satin shades, 13 shimmers, and 3 full-out metallics. That is just from looking at the palette, and my ancient eyes could be deceiving me hehe

These shadows apply like a dream! They are very soft, without creating much, if any kick-up. They are incredibly pigmented, especially when you consider the price! I have been playing with this palette for several weeks. I wanted to be able to give more than a first impression. I wanted to be able to give you my full and complete thoughts. For today’s photos, I went with a more bold look than I usually wear.

To start with, I ran Silk Creme over the entire lid. I then used Pooter as my transition shade, with Jacz as my crease shade. If you cannot tell from the photos, Jacz is a deep reddish-brown. I used Cranapple on the outer half of my lid, and Faint on the inner half. I put a thin line of Abyss along my upper lash line, as you would an eyeliner. I also ran Jacz on my lower lash-line, with a bit of Abyss on top.

When I took the above photos, I had been wearing the shadows for about 5 hours, at least. They look great! Well … sort of. They wore on my lids incredibly well, in my opinion. On my lower lash-line, however, Abyss had smudged and kind of smeared. It definitely didn’t wear as well as the other shades. With the other eye looks I chose while testing this, I don’t recall the other shades smearing and smudging like Abyss did. For the other looks, I put whatever shade I used in my crease as my lower lash color.

Honestly, that is the only downside I have found with this palette. This is my only experience with Morphe products, and I have to say I am impressed. I have heard others’ experiences to be a mixed bag. As I said above, the shadows are wonderfully soft and blend so, so well. I think better experienced makeup lovers and the earliest of beginners, alike, will have absolutely no trouble using this palette. In fact, I would heartily recommend this for those guys and gals just starting their makeup journey. Aside from one shade getting smudgy, I simply found no drawbacks.

Okay, those are my thoughts! What about y’all? Have any of  y’all tried the Jaclyn Hill X Morphe collaboration? Did you have the same experience I did? Lemme know! I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Makeup Monday ~ I Want Kandee eyeshadow palette

Phew, y’all … it has been a rough week or so at my house. I’m going to guess that I am in a crazy flare, because I have felt horrendous. I have been sleeping 15-18 hours a day and have been having crazy intense back spasms. For a week. I had a brief respite when I got my hair done, but even that day, the spasms started before I left the salon. Ooooh, you guys haven’t seen my hair yet!

In case it wasn’t obvious, I’m not all that conventional haha I dialed it wayyyyy back while our daughter was in school. She went to a small private school, and those parents/teachers can be just as nasty as the kids, oftentimes. I didn’t want our daughter affected because I’m kooky. She doesn’t really live with us most of the year now, so I feel … un-beholden, if you will. I was that girl in high school with the partially shaved head, purple hair, with combat boots. Okay, back to my week. I haven’t felt that bad in a long, long time. Funny enough, it wasn’t my RA that was giving me such a fit. I’m going to chalk it up to a fibro flare. It’s all I’ve got haha I am relieved to be feeling so much better. Five hour naps aren’t that awesome, despite what you might think.

Before my body decided to betray me last week, I put in an order with Ulta and one of the things I needed that week was the I Want Kandee eyeshadow palette collab between Kandee Johnson and Too Faced. I hadn’t really watched her YouTube videos before the collab, so I thought I would check her out (you can find her channel here). She is so freaking adorable!! What a positive little corner of YouTube and that is so needed within that beauty community!! There are several products in the collaboration, but I was most interested in the eyeshadows. If y’all could see my palette collection, you’d tell me I was crazy for ordering even more. What can I say? I really like eyeshadow! Let’s jump on in, y’all …

Can we talk about the packaging real quick? This has to be the most adorable packaging I have ever seen! And yes, the shadows do smell like candy hahaha They look like little chocolates on the back!!! I almost can’t stand how cute this is! The back has the shadows separated into how Kandee imagined them being used (from what I heard). They are separated into quads, with a highlight color for each. Of course, you don’t have to stick with that. It’s makeup … do whatever you want, however you want!

Here’s the look I came up with for today:

(Disregard my lip look … I clearly had some trouble with application. I am on the fence with that shade.)

Here’s what I did for this look … I took the highlight shade Banana Cream Pie and put it over the entire eye area, over my eyeshadow primer. I used Raspberry Cocoa in the crease, with Hot Chocolate in the outer “v” to deepen the look just a bit. I used a combination of my finger and a dampened flat shader brush to apply Sugar Plum on the inner 2/3 of my lid. I used Hot Chocolate again on the lower lash line, and added Licorice Rope to line the upper lash line. That’s it! I really like this look and I can see myself returning to this combination.

Now, for the question on everyone’s minds … how does it perform? Beautifully, honestly. I have never used a Too Faced product before this and I am quite pleased. The shadows are nicely pigmented and yet they blend very well. They also have great staying power. The day I got my hair done, I opted to use this palette. It was the first time I used it. I would say it was probably on my eyes a minimum of eight hours (four and a half of those at the salon) and the pigment had not diminished in the slightest. I also forgot eyeshadow primer that day, so that’s really saying something! The shimmers perform best when dampened or with your finger, but that’s nearly every shimmer I have ever used. It seems the “matte” shades have a few specks of glitter when you see them in the pan, but that does not translate to the lid. I haven’t noticed any kickback, nor does there appear to be any fallout.

I think it’s fairly clear how I feel about this palette. Not only are the shadows pigmented and easily blendable, but I think the price is quite fair. There are 15 shadows, and the palette sells for $45 (through Ulta or the Too Faced website). That works out to $3 per shadow. 12 of them weigh in at 1 gram (0.04 ounces), and the three highlight shades are 2 grams (0.07 ounces). That’s a decent amount. Just as a comparison, the pans in Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Modern Renaissance palette contain 1/2 gram, or 0.02 ounces. There are 12 shades in that palette and it runs $42 at Sephora. The pans in I Want Kandee are double the size for three more dollars.

Have you guys tried this palette yet? How about Too Faced, how do y’all feel about their products? Lemme know!

Makeup Monday ~ BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 2

Happy Monday, y’all! I hope everyone is safe from Irma today. Being in SC, we’ve been spared the brunt, but we’re still getting some pretty strong winds and a ton of rain. I have family and friends in Florida and everyone is safe and sound, thankfully. Personally, I love weather like this. Not hurricanes, but cold, wet, dreary days bring me to life. Haha yeah, I’m kind of weird, and that’s totally fine by me. There’s just something about days like this that are perfect for hot tea (or caramel cappuccino hehe), snuggly clothes, fuzzy socks and a good book. I haven’t read in ages, and it’s something that I miss. There’s no reason, other than getting sucked into the black hole of YouTube. That is going to change. I am committing myself to read for at least two hours a day, starting today! Heck, I can read an entire novel in that time! Lord knows my Kindle has enough books for at least a year of reading.

Anyway, I am super excited to get back to my blog. I had entirely way too much going on while my hubby was home. When he left, I took a few days to get myself organized. I created an office space, bought a new printer and basically organized my life for living alone. So far, so good! Having a dedicated space to work has been fantastic. I actually work, instead of watching videos! I made sure to put my back to the television, and only have music on while I’m working. Now, let’s actually talk about makeup while I’m working in my fab office space haha

For some reason, blue shadows don’t look great on me, but I keep trying!! I don’t know what I think will magically change about my complexion that will make blues suddenly look fabulous, but I keep on! Since I’m wearing all blue today, I thought “what the heck, my eyes may as well match the rest of me” hehehehe And since I’m going absolutely nowhere, while a tropical storm rages outside, what better look than foiled shadows?? Ammirite??

A few weeks ago, I ordered this palette from BH Cosmetics and I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived.

They don’t look like much in the palette, but the swatches!! Gorgeous!!

21616788_10155731245564357_892799722_o

Like I said, I thought I would go for a blue look today, and boy did I!

These shadows are so pretty!! If you swirl your finger in the pan a few times, you will be impressed by how soft and buttery these shadows feel. I thought they’d feel a little rougher, being foiled, but I was wrong! They are creamier than many of the higher end shadows in my collection, that’s for sure. I tried them using a dry brush to start with, and they were shimmery, but I felt they could look better. I spritzed my brush with a bit of setting spray and the payoff was so much better!

While this is only a first impression, it made quite an impression! This palette normally retails for $12.50 here, but it’s currently on sale for $8.37. There’s a site-wide 33% off sale. Even full price, you’d be hard pressed to find 28 shadows, of similar quality, for that price. I can’t believe it, every time I see how much their shadows are. It truly boggles the mind, how they can sell their products so inexpensively. I would definitely suggest heading over to their site and loading up! There are two versions of the Foil Eyes palette, the first having some yellows and brighter blues. Whichever tickles your fancy …

Alright, y’all! Those are my thoughts on the BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 2 eye shadow palette. I say run, don’t walk, to your nearest web browser and load up! Have you tried BH Cosmetics’ products before? What were your thoughts? Lemme know!

Makeup Monday ~ Eye shadow fun

Happy Monday! Y’all are not going to believe the last few days! My hubby and I have been busting tail to get all kinds of projects done around the house, that I simply cannot do by myself. I have been falling asleep at an insanely early hour, compared to my usual. My husband’s company called today and told him he would not be returning to Texas on Wednesday, which was the original plan. The area he was working was hit quite hard by Hurricane Harvey. Thank goodness he came home when he did! My thoughts are with everyone in Texas today, and in the coming weeks. Living in a coastal state, I know what they will be dealing with.

I have gotten several deliveries over the last few days, so I thought I would play with some eye shadows today. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone, as far as colors go. Here’s what I played with today:

Aren’t these some awesome colors?? Also, can you believe I have never used NYX or BH Cosmetics‘ eye shadows before today. Crazy, right? And considering how well these shadows performed, I can’t believe it took me this long!

I used the matte coral/orange color in the NYX palette, and the foiled orange from BH. I also ran the foiled orange under my lower lash line. The matte shadow blended out incredibly well. I had to apply the foiled shadow with a dampened brush, but that’s not at all unusual. I never thought my skin tone looked great with warm colors, but I was wrong! It actually makes my skin look more tan than it actually is, which is zero tan hahahaha I don’t love how my eyes look with liner in my waterline, but today was all about stepping outside my comfort zone.

Considering this is a first impression review, I am highly impressed!! The NYX shadow blended sooooo well!! The foiled shadow was quite easy to apply, both on the lid and under the lower lashes. Why have I waited so long to try these shadows!! I could have avoided a lot of heartache (and saved a ton of money) if I had tried these sooner. I came across BH Cosmetics from Taylor from the YouTube channel ThaTaylaa. She’s one of my favorite influencers and she talks about BH products a lot. (Keep your eyes peeled for a first impression review of another BH palette soon!)

Have y’all tried these brands before? Did you have a similiar experience? Lemme know!

Makeup Monday ~ Full Face (almost) First Impressions

Happy Monday, lovelies! I hope you all had a restful and peaceful weekend. Mine was pretty productive, which is a bit unusual for me haha. My weekends usually consist of a whole lotta nuttin’. I have had to do a lot of clothes shopping lately. I have lost nearly forty pounds since the beginning of the year, which makes most of my existing wardrobe comical. My weight loss hasn’t been on purpose, it’s health related. I might be more excited about it if it was purposeful. Regardless of the hows or whys, a new wardrobe is a necessity. Because it’s between seasons, I’ve found most everything on serious clearance, so YAY for that! Everything except for undergarments. Why on earth are ladies’ undergarments so insanely priced?? I can’t buy them just anywhere, either. Being more well endowed than the average woman, I have to go to higher end department stores. That isn’t even a guarantee. And guess what? Losing weight didn’t affect my bust size, in the least. Seriously?? The adage that women lose weight in the bust first does not apply to me, apparently. On another note, how about that eclipse??? It absolutely took my breath away. We live in the path of totality and it was a truly stunning and humbling experience.

Random ramblings aside, I have gotten lots of new makeup lately, so I thought I would do a full face impressions for today. Well, nearly full face. I didn’t get any new brow products or setting powder. Here’s everything I used:

20991258_10155672153724357_1784883196_o

Let’s start with the foundation.

20991518_10155672153449357_768236174_o

I used the Lorac Natural Performance Foundation. I just did not like it. It was a pretty light coverage formula, (it does say natural) and it didn’t really build up very well. It doesn’t look too bad in these photos. I dunno, I’m going to continue playing with it and see if I can figure out how to work with it. The Lorac Touch Up To Go concealer/foundation pen was just weird. It has an actual brush tip, and you push a button at the bottom of the pen to dispense the product. It sputtered out all over my desk and I couldn’t get a decent amount to come up into the brush. It blended out nicely with my micro.mini beauty blender, which was a positive. I might keep playing with this one too. I don’t know … I don’t know if the aggravation is worth it.

Next up was the Elevation highlighter and Balm Springs Long Wearing Blush, from The Balm. I liked these! I got a nice amount of bling from the highlighter and the blush was a really pretty color for my skin tone. Win!

21014541_10155672153709357_811568663_o

I used a lot of elf products lol The bronzer/blush kit is in St Lucia and I only used the bronzer. It looked a little but muddy, but that could have been the lighting. I have used the blush previously, and I really liked it. The formula of these is fantastic, though. They are nicely pigmented.

Sigh … that matte palette is a hot mess. I used the two blue shades that are next to each other and they were a blending nightmare for me. A friend, who isn’t into makeup like I am, even remarked at how patchy my eye shadow looked. I’m going to try again, using some different brushes and see what happens. Otherwise, this will be going in the bin. In the Aqua palette, I used the white shade at the top and the frosty blue at the bottom. These weren’t bad! I had to use a dampened brush, but I think that can be par for the course with a lot of shimmer shades, if you really want impact.

20991666_10155672153494357_302453405_o

For mascara, I used this Make Up For Ever sample that came in one of my subscription boxes. It was alright. The formula seemed quite dry. I don’t know if that’s just how it is, or if it’s been sitting in a warehouse, waiting to go into a subscription box haha. I couldn’t seem to build it up, and it didn’t give me near the lashes that the L’Oréal Lash Paradise does. “Excessive Lash” and “arresting volume” are quite a stretch as descriptors, at least for my lashes anyway. Have I mentioned how much I love crayon-style lippies? I own several from Clinique, tarte, and Cover Girl. They make application a no-brainer. Super easy! And this particular formula from Clinique is fantastic! Well pigmented and very smooth and creamy!

20991342_10155672153444357_698200559_o

Finally, my tools. These are all new in my collection. The micro.mini beauty blender came in this month’s Play! box and the brushes I ordered from PÜR. I’m on the fence with the mini fan brush. It did fine, really. It just feels really small in my hand haha The second brush is a concealer blending brush. I didn’t use it for that, but it worked great for setting my concealer! It’s the perfect size for that, and it’s very soft. The micro.mini is the perfect size for blending out concealer, and my under eye area was much less crepe-y and the concealer didn’t settle into my fine lines when I used this. That’s a HUGE win!

I was extremely unhappy with my makeup, and how I looked in general. The majority of that was the eyeshadow. Those blues just did not want to blend! I will give them a second chance, though. And, I’ll keep working with the foundation and concealer. My mind is made up as far as the mascara, though. It’s just too dry. Anyone know how to fix that??

So, what do y’all think? Any of you who have this newest matte palette from elf, did you have trouble blending the shadows, too, or is it just me? Haha, that’s entirely possible! Lemme know!

Makeup Monday ~ elf Beautifully Bare Lash Tint

Hello, lovelies! Welcome to a new week! My week has already started out swell … I had to take my truck back to the shop. It had been in the shop for well over a week, and I was so excited to get her back Friday. Until I got down the road. So, back she went today! I really hope it’s a quick fix, because my daughter leaves in just over a week, and we have lots of errands to run between now and then. Since this was a quick trip to town, I did some quick makeup.

elf almost always has a “free gift with purchase” deal going on. I LOVE that they do that! I gives me the opportunity to try products that I might not normally go for. That had to be how their Beautifully Bare Lash Tint, in Naked Noir, ended up in my collection. I scoured the elf website and I could not find it anywhere!

20884027_10155656426339357_501924444_o

I think my lashes are decent, without any product on them. They aren’t the worst I’ve seen, for sure. Here’s what they look like without anything:

20862509_10155656426374357_383905307_o

Haha well, you really can’t see them, can you? I have some, I swear! Like I said, I was just running to town to drop my truck off at the repair shop, so no need for full glam. I did try out some different shades in the Trolls palette from PÜR Cosmetics. (I am really having some thoughts about this palette, so look for my thoughts on that in an upcoming post.) Imagine my surprise when I pulled the wand out and saw this:

20841536_10155656426349357_286417556_o

Ummm … whaaatttt??? This is not marketed as a lower lash product. Just so you have some perspective, this is the elf wand next to the L,Oréal Lash Paradise wand:

20861029_10155656426234357_10171521_o

Insane, right? There is no way, this teeny tiny wand is going to do anything for my upper lashes. Because I already had this weird little thing out, I was committed. Here’s the result, y’all:

20839945_10155656426274357_1181590102_o

I am actually pretty impressed!! Now, to be fair, it’s not really a mascara, but a lash tint. It sure performed like a mascara, though! My lashes are definitely lengthened and fanned out a little. It didn’t do much in the way of adding volume, but I don’t think that was part of the deal. Tint does just that, tints whatever you put it on. I think what it did do was already going above and beyond any expectations I had.

I’m pretty glad the people at elf chose this product for my “free gift with purchase”. I never, ever would have chosen a lash tint before this. Score one for the folks at elf!! What do you guys think? Have you ever used a lash tint? Did you see good results? Lemme know!

Makeup Monday ~ Ciate Liquid Velvet

Good evening friends! I hope everyone is off to a great start for the new week! I started my week with a trip to a new doctor … yay. Haha can you hear the enthusiasm? Aside from that, it’s been an okay Monday. I did get a prize in the mail today that I was pretty excited to see! About a week or two ago, Ipsy emailed and asked if I would be interested in ordering a liquid lipstick from Ciate London. Ispy has started a new program called Ispy Shopper. It’s a pretty cool marketplace for full size products from such brands as MAC, GLAMGLOW, Josie Maran, and others. Each product has a certain cash back percentage. I ordered this Ciaté Liquid Velvet for $19.00, plus I am getting $10.70 back in Ipsy Cash, plus an additional $5 for it being my first Ipsy Shopper order. Basically, this liquid lipstick cost me $4. I’d say that’s a great deal for Ciaté!

Let’s talk about this liquid lipstick.20707081_10155636783024357_138389440_o

I will start off by saying that I am usually not a fan of liquid lipstick formulas. They are either incredibly drying, or oddly sticky until they dry. This formula is neither. It is actually quite comfortable.

This color, which is called Chatterbox, is actually much darker than it’s showing in the picture. When I opened the package, I was put off because it appears very purple. My sister, who tends to wear the funkier colors, even remarked about how purple it is. This lead to another concern. Darker colors, in my experience, tend to apply patchy or streaky. This also did neither. All of my previous experience with liquid lipstick is being turned on its head with this formula, Ciaté! That’s a good thing! Because of my previous experience, I have actively avoided matte formulas. These Liquid Velvet lipsticks have changed all of that!

20707300_10155636781859357_101423551_o

Look y’all, I actually do have hair! LOL It dawned on me that every photo of myself that I have posted, my hair is pulled back in a bun. Okay, back to the lippie … This applied much more in the berry family, than purple. I was very thankful for that. I don’t think purple is a flattering color for my lips, or skin tone. It didn’t go on patchy or streaky. I was able to rub my lips together, to evenly distribute the product … something else that is nearly impossible for me to do with matte formulas.

Now for some not so fantastic news …

20731309_10155636808689357_1277221801_n

After thirty minutes of drying time, it is not transfer-proof. Now, it doesn’t claim specifically to be transfer-proof. It does say that it offers “kissable colour with extreme hold”. I don’t really know how to interpret that, other than maybe transfer-resistant haha This product also contains hyaluronic acid, which is an ingredient in skin care products that attracts moisture, meaning this product should not dry out your lips like a lot of other matte liquid lipsticks. It also claims to be highly pigmented (umm yep!). It comes in 14 shades, from nudes to actual purple!

All in all, I am pretty impressed with this formula. It’s quite creamy, it doesn’t suck every bit of moisture from your lips, it apples well, the color is pretty cool … what isn’t to love?

What is your experience with matte liquid lipsticks? Love ’em or hate ’em? Lemme know!

Makeup Mondays ~ ColourPop Gemini by Midnight

Good Monday, lovelies! I am back!! Thank you for understanding that I was simply unable to get any posts up while I was gone. Funerals are a crappy way to reconnect with loved ones, but I am so glad I went. Aside from the circumstances, I had a wonderful time seeing everyone. When someone has been in your life for thirty years, they are no longer friends. They are bona fide family. Keeping in touch before the days of social media, heck, even before the internet, is no easy feat haha but we did it. Her parents have been more my parents than my own were. Sorry to ramble, but thank you for understanding that my attention needed to be on them over the last few days.

Right before I left, I got an awesome package from ColourPop. Literally, as I was leaving my driveway haha I have never used any of their shadows or lip products before. I got an eyeliner once in an Ipsy bag and I loved it. I have heard nothing but good things about their products over the last few months, so I decided to take the plunge. I ordered three palettes, but today, I am reviewing the collaboration with Sonya Esman, called Gemini by Midnight.

These are pressed powder shadows, and they are soooo soft and creamy. They almost feel cool to the touch.

20542917_10155616646259357_797412206_o

I am aging a bit, (just a bit haha), and my eyelids can cause shadows to skip a little and be difficult to blend, because the skin isn’t as tight as it used to be. Not with these shadows! They glide onto the skin with incredible ease and blend out amazingly well.

I did a very quick, rushed look today, as we were running late for an appointment … shocker, right? haha I used Golden Gate Bridge as a transition shade, Manhattan Coffee Run for my crease, and Moscow Sunrise for my lid. These pictures were taken about seven hours after I applied and I did not use a lid primer. I’d say they look pretty good!

Overall, these are great shadows. I think ColourPop removed this palette from their website, because I cannot find it on there now. However, you should be able to recreate the palette with the names given above. You can create your own palettes, as they sell their shades individually, as well as curated palettes. I paid $12 for four shadows, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The pigmentation is outstanding for the price, or any price, for that matter. As I said above, my eyelids are no longer as firm as they were when I was 20, so shadows can be tricky, especially when I am in a hurry and I need them to cooperate. This formula was incredibly cooperative, and I can only imagine how they will look when I’m not in a hurry! I’m not sure how this company can create such great quality products at such low prices, but I’m sure glad they figured it out!! They have also come out with brushes and concealers! The buzz surrounding that announcement was huge and they are finally live. The concealers are $6 and they are completely sold out. Brushes range in price from $11 to $5, and I cannot wait to try them out!!

Have you tried ColourPop Cosmetics products before? What are your thoughts about the quality? What was your experience? Have you used other indie brands that perform just as well? Lemme know!

**This post contains affiliate links**

Happy Monday, lovelies! I hope everyone is having a great start to their week! A few bits of business before I get this review started … I will be out of town Wednesday through Saturday (possibly Sunday) to attend an out of state funeral. I may not be taking my laptop and the likelihood of me having an opportunity to post on those days is pretty slim. I will do what I can, but obviously my focus needs to be on comforting my best friend and her family. My best friend, who has been my best friend for 30 years, lost her grandmother Saturday morning. We live in different states now, but I plan on being with her and her family during this difficult time, and my focus will be with them. I’m sure you all understand, and I may work on scheduling some posts. However, if there are some days without posts, that’s why.

Now! On to cheerier topics … I love mascara. I don’t feel complete without it. I have pretty awesome lashes, with the right mascara. Without it, I think my eyes look very weird, all done up, but with nekkid lashes haha I am always on the hunt for the perfect mascara. I think everyone has that one product that they search far and wide for the perfect fit. Some have come close (looking at you Lancome), but none have quite reached perfection … yet.

In one of my subscription boxes this month, I received a deluxe sample of IT Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara(<<affiliate link)

Phew … that was a mouthful! I love when I get samples of these higher end mascaras. Through my quest for the perfect one, I have found higher end mascaras to outperform drug store brands, in nearly every way, and this is no exception. I love that I can try these higher end products, with little upfront investment, until I find perfection haha Then, I’ll gladly spend whatever I need to.

Let’s talk claims …

What a great information card! The clams may be hard to read, so I will list them here. According to surveys, 96% said their lashes look stretched, 96% saw dramatic volume and length, 96% saw plumper looking lashes and 100% saw a fuller lash line. Ummm WOW! Those are impressive statistics! The real deal is in what you can see, so let’s go …

The middle photo is ONE coat of fresh mascara. Do y’all see how incredible my lashes look?? ONE COAT! I can confidently say that this mascara met EVERY claim they listed, without a doubt! It was easy to apply, even on my lower lashes, which always give me a hard time, and I often don’t do them, because I usually make a mess hehe No mess with this formula!

Now that this product sounds like the best thing since sliced bread, here are the negatives …

It is not waterproof. I wore this for 6 ½ hours today. I didn’t leave my house. I didn’t cry. I didn’t sweat. My eyes actually weren’t watery today. I didn’t take a nap. I didn’t rub my eyes. As you can clearly see in the final picture, this formula smudged terribly on my lower lash line. If it did that, when I literally did nothing today, it’s gotta be a no-go for me. I am so sad about that!!  My lashes looked AHHHMAAAZING! I am heartbroken over this, for real. It doesn’t appear that IT makes a waterproof version of this formula, and that is a tragedy. That makes this a deal breaker for me. It’s also a little on the goopy side, when you pull the wand out of the tube. That could present a clumping situation, as the mascara ages.

Sigh … so what do you guys think? Have you used this mascara? Did you experience the same level of smudging and disappointment? Lemme know!

PS ~ Sorry this is going up so late. I took a tumble down my back steps outside today and damaged myself a bit. No hospital trip was necessary, but I am not recovered lol and my foot, knee, shin and pride are pretty banged up. It took some time to recover enough to do what I needed to do for tonight’s post. Sigh … my life the last few days lol Just gotta laugh it off!

Makeup Monday ~ Maybelline Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon

Hello lovelies! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! My apologies that this post is going up so late. Today (well, yesterday I guess) has been an awful day. I had some errands to run this morning. I had to run to the dump (no trash service out here in the boonies haha), pick up my pain med prescriptions from my rheumatologist and get one of them filled. Anyone who takes a Schedule II drug understands the frustration in dealing with those meds. No refills and you cannot fill the prescription early, meaning you can only fill it on the day you are scheduled to run out. I am thankful that I don’t have to see my rheumatologist every time I need a new prescription. When my family doctor was handling my pain management, not only did I have to see him every month, but I had to be drug tested. They weren’t looking for other drugs. They were making sure my system had opiates in it. Crazy, right? Sigh … the trials and tribulations of being on Schedule II drugs. As with everything, my situation could be worse, and I am ever thankful for understanding, compassionate doctors. Anyway, after I finished my errands and got home, I started running a low grade fever. Also something pretty common with autoimmune diseases. Because my immune system is so out of whack, random fevers just happen. I’m not sick with a cold or anything like that. I’m not contagious with anything. Just a fever, and high enough to make my body hurt worse than it already does. That was a very long winded way of telling y’all this post is late because I felt like crap most of the day hahaha

While I was at the drug store, waiting on my medicine to be filled, I wandered over to the makeup section. The pharmacy fills your prescription MUCH faster if you tell them you will wait for it. Two hours versus ten minutes. Yes, I’ll wait and spend wayyy too much money on makeup while I’m at it hehe The Maybelline section caught my eye, and in particular their Color Tattoo Concentrated Crayon. It claims to give up to 24 hours of wear. Now, I don’t have the patience or the constitution to see if it really lasts 24 hours, and it’s a bad idea to sleep with makeup on, so we’re just going to have to take their word on that. I really like cool toned eyeshadow, so I chose two crayons to test out, 705-Pink Parfait and 720-Lilac Lust.

Aren’t they cute! These were $6.99 and they were buy one get on 50% off. Sweet! They apply quite well. They are very creamy. Blending, however, is another situation entirely. These shadows dry down FAST. I had zero time to blend the purple, so it looks a little choppy. The shadow that wasn’t dry just kinda stuck to my brush and came off of my eye. Blending with my finger didn’t work so well, either. I ended up rubbing the shadow off.

Disregard my face. I didn’t have a stitch of makeup on anywhere except my eyes.

It doesn’t look so bad with my eye open haha I would suggest going into the crease very lightly at first, and build up to the pigmentation that you want, instead of going all in right from the start. This is my first experience with such a pigmented shadow crayon, so it’s a work in progress. I am going to continue to play with these, for sure. There has to be a way to blend these out!! They will not defeat me! I really do like them a lot, despite the blending trouble. They are super easy to apply, they don’t skip across the lid. I didn’t use any sort of eyelid primer, but I don’t think you really need one. I don’t foresee these shadows creasing or fading. These might even look great with a black shadow base. Oooohhhhh … I might play with that look tomorrow!

Have any of you tried these out? Do you have the same trouble blending, or is it just me? That’s entirely possible haha Let me know!
