Bougie on a Budget ~ Hautelook

** This post contains affiliate links. Please read my disclosure here.**

Happy Friday, friends! It’s the weekend again! I cannot tell you how happy and thankful I am to have my truck back. I was without transportation for about three weeks. When you live 20 miles from everyone and everything, and your spouse is working out of town, not having transportation is TOUGH! I don’t have many places to be, but there are the occasional doctor appointments and grocery trips. We don’t have trash service, which means trips to the recycling center with our trash. It has been a challenge haha and I hope I don’t have to deal with that again for a long time.

That being said, we had THOUSANDS of errands to run yesterday, of course. I left my house at 10:30am and we didn’t get home until after 7 last night. We had dorm shopping to get done, two doctor appointments, the bank, small grocery shopping, pharmacy pick ups and a quick trip to the local JC Penny to see if they finished building the Sephora. Sigh … it won’t be finished until September 8. I could barely move when we finally got home. My daughter, precious thing that she is, unloaded everything and got it all put away. Not only that, but she cleaned out the fridge. That alone deserves an award haha So, because I was completely ruined last night, I apologize that I couldn’t get a post up.

Today’s post should make up for that, a bit. I don’t know if you guys watch any beauty influencers on YouTube, but one of my favorites is Jessica Braun. In one of her videos she talked about Hautelook, so I had to check it out. Basically, they create events, in which luxury brands are offered at up to 75% off retail. The events last just a few days, and then they are gone. Currently, there’s a MAC event, ending Aug 21. There are events for makeup, beauty products, fragrance, clothing for the whole family, shoes, accessories and home goods.

When I checked them out, they were having a Lorac event. I’ve never tried Lorac products, but I have heard good things about them, so I decided what better time to try them out! I purchased the Natural Performance foundation, and the Touch-up To Go concealer and foundation pen. Amazon carries the foundation (only in light/medium) for                      (affiliate link embedded in image)

$36, Prime eligible. Lorac lists it for the same price. The Lorac website lists the concealer for $16, and Amazon does not offer the concealer.

That’s not exactly a drug store price point for the foundation. I have seen some drug store concealers come close to $16, though, but only recently, and I want to say it was a “higher end” drug store brand, if that’s a thing haha I was able to get these items from Hautelook for $9.97, each. That’s a pretty significant savings! Shipping was $5.95 and with tax, the total was $27.96. Still more than $10 less than the foundation’s full price! (Both of these items will be featured in next week’s Makeup Monday post, so be sure to check that out!)

There are some cons, however. The first is kind of a small one, but orders are generally not eligible for free shipping until you hit the $100 mark. That’s pretty steep, if free shipping is important to you. The second big con, for me anyway, is delivery time. I placed my order on July 25, and received my package yesterday. Three weeks after I placed my order. From what I understand, Hautelook orders your products from the company itself (Lorac, in this case), then they ship everything to you. Which makes total sense when they do these events. Considering they don’t know how successful an event may or may not be, it doesn’t make sense to keep a stock of these products. Not only that, it cuts down significantly on their overhead costs, not having to warehouse all of the products. That translates into more savings for us!

If time, or quick shipping are not huge factors for you, I strongly urge you to look into Hautelook for your luxury needs. Not only will you (and your family, and your home) look amazing, your bank account will breathe a sigh of relief hahaha

What do you all think? Do you know about Hautelook? Have you ordered from them? Lemme know all about your amazing finds!

Hey Hey, It’s Sephora Play!

Well, technically, it’s Play! by Sephora, but that wouldn’t rhyme! Happy Friday, lovelies! I hope you all have had a wonderful week! Mine certainly got better at the end. I got three deliveries, one from Sephora, one from Pur Cosmetics, and one from Macy’s. We’ll be talking about all of those next week. When I checked my mail today, I was shocked to see my Play! by Sephora box inside. That box usually doesn’t come until later in the month and it’s never gotten here before Ipsy or Birchbox! YAY!

This is my third month with this subscription service, and I’m pretty pleased so far. I’m quite happy with all of my subscriptions, to be honest. I love being able to try out a product, with minimal investment. If I don’t like it, it’s not a big deal, and there have been some products that just weren’t my cup of tea. Overall, though, everything has been great. One thing I particularly like about Sephora’s service is you get five deluxe samples plus a fragrance sample. I’ve become a bit of a perfume junkie lately, and this is a GREAT way to find new scents. In fact, I have found a few new fragrances that I cannot live without now … looking at you Versace Bright Crystal!!

Let’s jump on in!

For starters, how flipping cute is this bag??? And I love that they used the Periodic Table to talk about beauty ingredients! As always, you get 50 free Beauty Insider points with purchase, but they have to be used in-store. That’s a big bummer if you don’t have a store nearby. I think one was recently built in our JC Penny store, but I haven’t been there in ages. Guess I should go and check it out! Also, these points are not good forever. They expire on the last day of the month after you get your bag. In other words, these 50 points I got with my August box expire September 30th.

Lets dig into these goodies, shall we?

Starting with skin items, there’s a mini Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation stick in the shade Shell ($46). It looks light enough for my skin tone, so YAY! Next up is Korres Golden Krocus Ageless Saffron Elixir Serum ($98/1oz). This is something I am SUPER excited about! It looks very glittery in the bottle, but doesn’t seem to be too much on the skin. I just had to put a drop on the back of my hand, once I saw it haha It smells wonderful!! This has actual Greek saffron and, from what the paperwork says, it takes 150 Krocus flowers in order to produce one gram of saffron. Finally, we have the beautyblender micro.mini sponge applicator ($18). These are the perfect size for concealer, and maybe using a damp sponge will keep my under eye area from looking so dried out and crease-y.

20813471_10155647537224357_2096950447_o

I’m not really a huge fan of the hair products that come in these boxes. Most are texturizing sprays or volumizing sprays. My hair has plenty of both haha and sprays just make my hair out of control or sticky. This spray from Alterna Haircare, Caviar Anti-Aging Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist ($30/4.8oz) is both volumizing AND texturizing, so it should be interesting! This has a wonderful citrus scent, so I will definitely try it out. I’m just not going to have high hopes hahaha

20793810_10155647537354357_217898410_o

This is an interesting product, Clinique’s HIM Dual-Ended High Impact Mascara & Primer Duo. This must only come as a mini, because I cannot find it on the Sephora website anywhere. I have never used a lash primer before, and this claims to be moisturizing, which I could probably use. I try to only use waterproof mascara (watery eyes and living in the South haha) and that has to be hard on lashes. It also says using the primer will create more a more vibrant and longer lasting eye look. I am looking forward to seeing what effect this will have on my mine!

Finally, we have my favorite part of the Play! bag:

20793652_10155647537334357_1239249563_o

I had to laugh when I read the description of My Burberry Black ($72/1oz) … “inspired by the iconic Burberry trench coat” What??? It features a blend of jasmine, candied rose and amber. How do those scents jive with a trench coat, exactly? It also has peach and patchouli. Don’t get me wrong, it smells incredible. I just don’t understand how a trench coat was the inspiration for the scent hahaha

So, that’s my August Play! bag. This service is $10 a month and I think it’s well worth that price. If I went out and bought full sizes of these products (not including the Clinique duo), the total cost would be $264. What do you think? Do you subscribe to any of these boxes? Which ones are your favorites? Lemme know!

Bougie on a Budget ~ Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick

Happy Friday, friends! Whoo hoo, I don’t know about you guys, but I am thankful for the weekend! I’ve had lots of errands this week, so I am glad to have a few days of nothing. For today’s Bougie on a Budget, let’s talk about rewards programs. Any opportunity you have to join a store, or brand’s, rewards program, you should do it. They are usually free and, depending on how often you shop, can pay off pretty quickly. Today, we’re going to talk about Sephora’s rewards program, Beauty Insider.

Sephora offers three levels of rewards, Insider, Very Important Beauty, and VIB Rouge. When you first join, everyone starts as an Insider. At this level, participants receive a birthday gift, access to the rewards bazaar, access to the Beauty Insider community and free beauty classes. Once you spend $350 in a calendar year, you get upgraded to VIB. Benefits include everything from Insider, plus monthly gifts, and one free custom makeover. Should you spend $1000 at Sephora in a year, you get everything from Insider and VIB plus free 2-day shipping, access to a private hotline, and invitations to exclusive events.

I think I order a lot from Sephora, and I am $43 away from VIB status. I am pretty excited about that! I’m quite curious as to the monthly gifts, honestly. This is Bougie on a Budget, after all haha You also get a complimentary VIB welcome kit when you upgrade to that level. The best thing about being part of the rewards program, though, is access to the Rewards Bazaar. For every dollar you spend, you are awarded points. When you place an order, you have the option of cashing in those points for deluxe-sized products. Every month, the products change, and they are not cheesy products. They are high quality, often high-end, luxury brand products. There are different products for different amounts of points. This month, for 100 points each, you can get Sephora Collection LashCraft Big Volume Mascara, Tatcha The Water Cream, CoverFX Custom Enhancer Drops, MIU MIU L’eau Bleue, Sunday Riley U.F.O. Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel, REN Keep Young and Beautiful™ Instant Firming Beauty Shot, Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick, Tocca Stella, Make Up Forever Aqua XL Color Paint Shadow, YSL Mon Paris Eau de Parfum, and Prada Candy Gloss. For 250 points each, the choices are Urban Decay Perfect Prep Set, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau Intense, L’Occitane Dream Moisturizing Duo, and a Sephora Polka Dot Tote. At 500 points each, the options are bareMinerals Best of bareMinerals, Tarte Skin Heroes Discovery set, First Aid Beauty Beauty Script, Alterna Haircare Caviar Anti-Aging, Dr. Brandt Skincare Polish & Plump, and Amika Treat, Style, Extend. At the 750-2500 points each level, they offer a Josie Maran Dream Big set. At 3000-4500, the choice is an Urban Decay Aspiring Artist Starter Kit. From 5000-15000, the offering is WildFox Sole X WildFox Dutch Bicycle … a bicycle AND perfume! For anything over 20,000 points, the offering is a trip for two to Verb Southwest Fest, in Austin. This reward includes round trip airfare for two to Austin, TX, three nights’ hotel accomodations, two three-day VIP passes to Austin City Limits (including food and beverage), meet and greet with Verb founding team, and a Verb goodie bag, valued at $200. WOW, Y’ALL!!! I’ll never save up enough point for something like that, but I think it’s pretty awesome that they have such a wide range of rewards.

Phew … that was a lot of background info to talk about the awesome Bougie on a Budget “purchase”. Last month, Sephora offered Givenchy’s Rouge Interdit satin lipstick, in the shade Fuscia-In-The-Know.

Yes, it’s a small lippie haha, but it’s a free Givenchy lipstick. Free makes any size worth it, in my book. This is a very bright, beautiful color.

It went on so smooth, and is so creamy and light!! (Look at those lashes btw, y’all ♥♥) It dries down just a little bit, giving it a semi-matte appearance. It is not transfer-proof, though, and performs just like any normal lipstick. It does have some staying power, though. Wish I could say the same for that eyeliner today haha

20632667_10155627353504357_1598124090_n

Being long wearing is one of the claims, but there isn’t a whole lot left after 2 ½ hours. I did eat a snack, and I’ve been drinking through a straw for most of that time. It’s certainly not the worst, as far as staying power. It is very comfortable, and my lips felt very hydrated when applied. They still feel pretty good.

I am very happy with my very free, very bougie lipstick. This line retails for $34. Is it worth $34?? Hmm … no. Aside from the name, there isn’t anything really special about this lippie. If I can get another for free, though, I will jump on that offer.

Do you have a favorite rewards program? What kind of cool products did you get? Let me know all about it!

Sneak Peek ~ New Besame collections

Stop the presses, y’all! During the D23 expo this week, Besame Cosmetics dropped a bombshell. They are launching a Snow White and the Seven Dwarves Collection … Need to collect yourselves? It’s cool … I’ll wait …

If you don’t know, Bésame is a luxury vintage cosmetics company. Their cosmetics are inspired by the Golden Age of Hollywood, which is generally considered to be the 1930’s through the 1940’s. Think pale skin, ruby red lips, and blacker than black mascara. That makes Bésame the perfect company to come out with a Snow White makeup collection! There is no official release date that I have seen, but I will keep you posted!

Something else super cool in the works from Bésame is an Agent Carter collection. Those of you who may not know, Agent Peggy Carter was Captain America’s love interest before he was Captain America, during World War II. Agent Carter also had a very short lived television show on ABC, which is home to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The only thing on the website is this message from Tony Stark:

Taken from the Besame website

How cute is that?? Like the Snow White collection, there is no release date, but I will let you know as soon as I hear.

What do you guys think? Are you as excited for these collections as I am?? Let me know!

Bougie on a Budget ~ Battle of the Eye Makeup Removers

Hello lovelies! Are we all ready for the weekend?? I sure am. I am kicking this weekend off right! Lots of relaxation, me time and epic battles! Also, Game of Thrones returns Sunday haha

Any opportunity I have to get eye makeup remover samples, (any samples, really), I jump on it. If I’m going to potentially spend $30, for just over 4 oz of product, I need to know it’s going to be a worthwhile investment. It’s very important to me that a remover is 1) actually going to remove makeup and 2) remove it with minimal effort. I have watery eyes, and I live in a very hot, humid climate, so waterproof mascara is nearly a must if I don’t want to look like a raccoon. Also, I am getting to that age where my facial skin is thinning, so the last thing I want to do is scrub my eyes, trying to remove waterproof mascara. And so, a battle is born … the Battle of the Bougie Makeup Removers!!

In one corner, weighing in at a hefty $30 for 4.2 oz is Lancome’s Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover.

In the other corner, also weighing in at 4.2 oz, but for the shocking low price of $19, Clinique’s Take The day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes & Lips.

19866629_10155532046574357_925866283_n
Photo taken from Clinique’s website

Both of these heavyweights came out swinging, battling for the number one spot. There can be only one winner, though. Here’s the breakdown:

This is a before picture of my eye makeup. It was a long day, but there is some eye shadow and eyeliner left, and waterproof mascara.

After photos of my right eye.

After photos of my left eye.

20133316_10155559193174357_613200567_o

And the aftermath hahaha I used Clinique on my left eye, and Lancôme on my right. Both removed every bit of make up, as you can see on the cotton pads, and in the after photos. There were some small differences, however.

The Lancôme remover was a dream. It took about thirty seconds to remove every trace of waterproof mascara. There was no tugging, no harsh rubbing or scrubbing. Just gentle wiping of the eye area.

The Clinique remover didn’t work quite as well. Don’t get me wrong, it still did an excellent job. It took about twice a long to ensure I got everything off, and it required me to be a bit more aggressive. Now, I didn’t have to rub hard enough to do any damage or anything like that. I would have gone another route before I damaged my eye area. It was a small, but noticeable difference between the two removers, though.

Now, is it an $11 difference? To me, no. The Clinique remover does an excellent job. However, if your eye area is particularly sensitive, it may be well worth the price difference. And since this post is about being bougie on a budget, I have to go with the more budget-friendly price, hands down. For now, Clinique is the champ. It shouldn’t get too comfortable there, though. There’s always a contender, ready to take the number one spot!

What’s your favorite high end makeup remover? Lemme know!

Bougie on a Budget ~ Mascara Edition

Let me start by saying that I am a waterproof mascara girl. I have watery eyes, I live in central SC and it’s summertime. Even in winter, I use waterproof formulas because of the watery eye situation. In my freebie pack from Lancôme the other week was a mascara. I assumed it would be a product that I gave away because it was regular ‘ol mascara. I was in a hurry to get out of the house this morning, so it was a mascara and lipstick only kinda morning. I thought I would give this a shot, and if I looked like a raccoon twenty minutes after we left the house, then so be it.

Boy, was I WRONG!! We left the house at 9:30 this morning. It is currently 11:10 pm and I just took these photos. My daughter had an appointment, we got gas, went to Walmart and I had my eyebrows and upper lip done. We got home around 2:30. With the heat index today, it was 105°. I took a nap later in the afternoon. This is the result, y’all:

Can y’all believe this mascara has been on my face nearly 14 hours, in insane heat, with mildly watery eyes and through a nap??? Aside from a little bit of flakiness on my right eye, this stuff looks nearly perfect!!! Because this was literally all I had time to do before flying out of the house, I put it on the upper and lower lashes, which I rarely do. I usually just put mascara on my upper lashes and call it good. What is this miracle product from Lancôme, you ask??

img_1777
Mini Mascara

This is their Défincils formula in black. It retails for $27.50 and comes in black, deepest black and deep brown. This formula is also available in a black travel size for $13.00. It gives a natural enhancement to your existing lashes and is suitable for contact lens wearers, which is huge. If you’ve ever worn a mascara that isn’t compatible with contact lenses, you’ll know pretty quick. Don’t ask me how I know. I have never felt such an intense sting in all my years.

Depending on how often and how much mascara you wear, the travel size may be a good option. This is Bougie on a Budget, after all. However, this formula would be WELL worth the full price. According to their website, this is “the number 1 mascara for over 16 years!” Not only has it been number one, it’s also award winning. It doesn’t mention what award, though. Budget doesn’t always mean spending as little as possible, although being thrifty is certainly as aspect of “budget friendly” purchases. To me, budget friendly items are those that will give you the best value for your dollar. I really think this mascara (in either size) is a great value. Just look at those pics of my peepers, and consider everything this formula was up against today. I REALLY put it to the test and it came out on top. Brava Lancôme!! I will be ordering from you again!

Makeup Monday ~ Lancome eyeshadow

Happy Monday, y’all! I hope everyone enjoyed a peaceful, BBQ filled weekend! Mine was kind of exciting, which is not the norm for me. I prefer quiet weekends, but having some fun every now and then is a good thing. Remember what happened to Jack in The Shining when he didn’t take the time to play? Ummm, no thanks hahahaha

I thought I would try out this new eye shadow palette I got from Lancôme. It’s their Color Design Palette in French Riviera – Cool. It’s not a huge palette. It looks like the entire thing is 2g. The shadows are incredibly soft and buttery, and they are beautiful in the pan.

I was running late (of course) Saturday, so I did a rushed look with these colors. The picture isn’t the best, as I took it in my car as I was pulling out of my driveway. (Where did my lip color go???)

19756096_10155516437984357_2135222186_n

Honestly, y’all, I was less than impressed. Maybe it’s because I was in such a hurry. I dunno. For starters, the satin brown in the middle applied grey. Ummmm … what? I went in with another brown, from another palette, to get the right shade in my crease, which you cannot see hehe.  The pink shimmer was not very pigmented, and I had to dampen my brush just to get what I got. Here are some swatches. The first pic is finger swatches, and the second I used a Real Techniques domed shadow brush.

Even in the swatches, the pink is very underwhelming, which is such a shame, because it’s so beautiful in the pan. I looked on the Lancôme website and I cannot find a price for the 4-pan shadows. 5-pan shadows, though, are $50. This palette was part of a free gift with purchase deal, so maybe they don’t make it as an individual piece to purchase. That being said, if this is any indicator of the performance of their shadow collections, I would steer clear. Just because a product is high end and expensive does not mean it will perform better than a drug store, or more affordable product. Save your money when it comes to Lancôme shadows.

Have you been disappointed by a makeup product that you just knew would be amazing? Let me know! I want to take a moment to wish everyone a very happy and SAFE 4th of July! Please don’t drink and drive and be careful with those fireworks, y’all!

Bougie on a budget

**This post contains affiliate links**

This post is the first in a series that will talk about getting the most bang for your buck with luxury products.

I’ll admit it. I can be pretty bougie. I think we all, more or less, have the potential. I like to call my approach bougie on a budget.  Ebates  (<< affiliate link) sent me an email that Bloomingdale’s was having a sale on Lâncome. Of course I jumped on it! Let’s all take a moment and look at this eyeshadow …

img_1776

And this came FREE! All I had to do was spend $39 in Lâncome products (the lippies) and I got a six-piece gift set free! I am all over those “free gift with purchase” offers. Here’s my entire Bloomingdale’s haul, minus the eyeshadow above:

I am so excited to create a look with those eyeshadows. I am not a fan of finger swatches, or brush swatches, because neither really give a true impression of how the shadow will perform on the eyelid. Trust me when I tell you those shadows are PIGMENTED! And the shimmer is stunning!! Heck, the shimmer is stunning in the pan hahaha

This haul is another reason to love Ebates. (<< affiliate link) They let you know when their affiliates are having AMAZING sales. So not only do you get to take advantage of sales you might otherwise not be aware of, but you get to MAKE money while you do it! Sorry, this is NOT another Ebates post. I swear. But, because of them, I got a beautiful gift set, free, along with some pretty cool lip products! I’ll do some swatches tomorrow of everything. Even though I said I don’t love swatches haha, y’all just have to see those shadows at work!
