Mid Week Mask ~ Naisture Plain Yogurt Mask Pack

Good Friday Eve, y’all! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! Mine has been okay. I’ve been to town twice this week, and if you’ve been a consistent reader of mine, you are aware of the toll that takes. The good part of that is I got my hair re-done. It’s now a gorgeous pink menagerie, with some purple areas. My colorist is a genius, I swear.

Her eye for color and how various colors can work together is astounding. Apologies for the quality of the second photo. I took it outside, after dark, with my phone, and I should know better haha

While I was gone, the postman delivered a package from HauteLook. If you’ve never shopped with them, I highly recommend it. That being said, it will take quite a while to receive your package, so don’t order anything you need rather soon. In my order was this mask from Naisture. I had not heard of the company previous to ordering, so this was going to be an adventure!

The packaging y’all! There are some Korean companies that just go all out with the cute factor, and I think the jar presentation is simply adorable!! I will admit, I have purchased items solely based on their packaging. Thankfully, it’s usually worked in my favor.

I am a big fan of Korean skin care products. There is just something about them that works for my skin, and this product was no exception.

I greatly appreciate that a spatula was included, to dip out the product. It’s quite unhygienic to dip your fingers into a jar of product that will be going on your face. Often you have to dip in more than once, after having your fingers on your face, transferring bacteria and other germs into the jar. Then, you close up the jar, and the germs are left to fester, until you use it again, which can often cause a breakout. You might think the product is causing the breakout, when in fact, it was your own germs from the last time you used it. A spatula or other scooping tool is vital when using jarred products, in my opinion.

The mask looks very much like yogurt in the jar, and has no scent that I can pick up on. This is great for those of you who may be sensitive to scented products. It applied quite smoothly and feels like a very thick moisturizer. The instructions recommend leaving the mask on for ten minutes, then rinsing and following with a toner. It rinsed off cleanly, and didn’t leave behind any sticky feeling.

I must admit I am quite impressed with this mask. Even after toning, I feel like I didn’t need to apply moisturizer. My skin felt incredibly hydrated and supple. I have dry skin, as most women my age do, and the tops of my cheeks are particularly dry. Sometimes they get so dry they burn, which is not a feeling anyone wants to feel on their face. This mask fully hydrated even the tops of my cheeks. I usually have to apply an oil to get the same level of hydration that I received with one ten minute mask.

HauteLook events are short-lived and there is no telling when this product will be offered by them again. It is, however, available from Amazon: PREMIUM QUALITY PLAIN YOGURT MASK PACK, Ultra-mosturizing Face Yogurt Skin Balance for Smooth Skin 4.9oz. (affiliate link) If you struggle with dry skin, I cannot recommend this mask enough. For those of us with dry skin, winter can be especially harsh, and I think this mask is an ideal solution. Most of the instructions are in Korean, so there are no recommendations as to how often is can be used, that I can find. I am not an expert, but I would recommend starting with twice per week, once you see how your skin reacts after your initial application. This is based on my own experience, and yours might be different, so use your own judgement.

Have y’all tried this product before? Have you had any experience with other products from Naisture? What are your thoughts on K-beauty products? Lemme know! I’d love to have a conversation about it!

Mid week Mask ~ Too Cool For School Pumpkin 24K Gold Mask

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween! Mine was very quiet, which is just how I like it haha Now, we are fully in the swing of Hallowthanksmas, which is kinda the worst part of the season for me. None of the autumnal holidays have their own space any more. Every year, the stores push for earlier and earlier Christmas displays. I’m not even kidding, the pharmacy I use had Christmas decorations up, in the same aisle with Halloween, two weeks before Halloween! That’s just much too soon. Back when I was a kid, that stuff didn’t come out until after Thanksgiving. Now, that was quite a long while ago haha but there are some things from the ancient past that are worth revisiting.

Want to know what I would prefer to not revisit? The mask I used yesterday. It’s kind of a rare thing for me to not like a sheet mask, but I couldn’t even leave this one on my face for the full recommended time! So let’s just get right into it …

23261770_10155866522314357_256795107_o

I had such high hopes for this cute l’il guy! It smelled fantastic and was full of serum. It came with a backing, I guess to keep it from sticking to itself in the package. I get that idea, but it’s a bit of a pain for me to peel a dripping wet mask off of a backing. I just don’t have the dexterity in my fingers any more to fool with that sort of thing. But, that’s really a minor thing.

The biggest problem for me with this mask was it was absolutely huge on my face! Now, I know I can have a big head at times, but this must have been made for a giant! In all of the fuss with trying to get it to stay on my face, I neglected to take photos. This is really one time when my goofy mask photos would have been quite beneficial. Because it was so large, it had to be folded in places, which means it didn’t make great contact with my face in some areas. That lead to it sliding all over the place, getting in my mouth and eyes. I got so frustrated with trying to keep it in place, that I ended up taking it off and tossing it after about ten minutes. They recommend 15-20 minutes. I’m sure I got some benefit, but not what it could have been.

There was ample serum left on my face, so I patted that into my skin. It took quite a while for it to fully absorb, more than an hour, which I think it a bit on the long side. This mask experience seemed to be one frustration after another. I think if it had fit better, the longer absorption time wouldn’t have bothered me as much. I understand that manufacturer’s need to do their best to make these products one size fits most, and I get that. However, in all of my vast sheet mask experience, I’ve never had one fit so poorly. And the real bummer is this mask was $8 from Sephora, so I can’t even excuse it by saying it was a cheap mask! One final criticism … where the heck was the gold?? The mask itself was plain old white, and there were definitely no gold flecks in the serum. No gold!

Have any of y’all tried this mask? Did you have an equally frustrating experience, or was yours smooth sailing? Lemme know!

Midweek Mask ~ I Dew Care, and an ER trip!

Good Wednesday, y’all. Sigh … the past 18 hours have been awful. Last night, my daughter was bit by a snake, in the throat, while she was lying in her bed playing a video game. Yep … there was a snake in my house. Still is a snake in the house, because we couldn’t find it last night. It was small, and after it bit her, she flung it off and it hit the floor and immediately slithered under her bed. Because we couldn’t identify the snake, and because of where it bit her, I decided an ER visit was absolutely in order. Luckily, we weren’t there long, considering. I think from start to finish, we were there three hours. And we got into a room immediately. They do not play around when you say snake bite. There are four varieties of venomous snakes in my area, we ruled out three instantly. One, however, was a possibility. So, they needed to monitor her vitals, and keep an eye on the bite. A lot of baby snakes cannot control their venom, so their bites can be more dangerous. Thank goodness it turned out to be non venomous kind, based on how she was in the ER. The unfortunate thing is my daughter already disliked living out in the country. This experience really cemented that for her, and I get it. She was in her bed, a supposed to be safe space, and was bitten, by a snake, of all things. Physically, she is fine, now. Emotionally, she is pretty shattered. A college student has never been more happy for move-in day than her right now. Needless to say, I didn’t get to post last night.

Considering everything that transpired over the last 18 hours, I thought I would try a new mask in my collection. I ordered the calamine based mask from I Dew Care a few weeks ago and figured calming was exactly what I needed haha.

It has a kind of jelly consistency, different than other clay masks I’ve tried. It smells about like you’d expect a calamine mask to smell. Not great, but not terrible … like calamine lotion.

This was a 10-15 minute commitment, and that’s just about perfect. It gets quite tight as it dries, similar to how a peel-off mask gets. A simple warm water rinse and it was done. I didn’t  notice an immediate difference, but I think that’s because removing this mask took a bit of work, and that made my skin red, of course. I looked at it after about an hour and it looked pretty good. I didn’t take an after picture, because they always add to my redness, for some reason. I dunno if it’s the lighting in my house, or what, but my face always looks redder in photos that it actually is. I guess you’ll just have to take my word for it. My skin also feels surprisingly hydrated. Some clay masks can be drying, but this one isn’t at all.

I see you, I Dew Care! And I’ll be looking into your other masks. I’m pretty happy with how my skin looks and feels tonight. My only complaint is I wish it smelled better. Calamine isn’t a bad smell, it just kinda smells like clay. I wish this had a slight floral scent, or something. But, that’s just personal preference and has nothing to do with how the mask performs.

Have any of you tried any of the I Dew Care skin care products? What do  you think about them, if you have? Let me know!

Mid~Week Mask ~ Luminating Lotus

Happy Wednesday, lovelies! Today has been a great day! My niece is here, slumber partying for a few days. She’s five … I wrote about her a while back. You can read about that here. She told me earlier that tonight was going to be a girl’s night out haha We won’t be going anywhere, but those are her words for having a spa night. In fact, she picked out my mask for tonight, and I hope she picked a good one!

This came in my Ipsy bag this month. An unboxing post for Ipsy and Birchbox will be coming on Thursday, so this is a bit of a sneak peek. For July, Ipsy gave their subscribers the option to choose an item for their bag, so I jumped on the Tony Moly option. In addition to this lotus mask, they included a green tea mask. YAY! Alrighty … let’s get to it!

Okay, I’m just gonna say it … Tony Moly masks are not my favorite <ducks from the K beauty lovers of the world> I was hoping this particular style would be better (which is why I was excited above.) I don’t know what it is about their serum, but it leaves my face quite sticky. The directions say to pat the serum in and leave on. Ummmm … I cannot do that. I will leave it on my skin as long as possible, but I cannot leave it on while I sleep. I would be afraid I would wake up with a break out. Because of the stickiness, I cannot tell if my skin is moisturized or not. It’s definitely not luminized (hehe). The masks aren’t awful, by any means. I’ve had some awful face masks and I’ve absolutely had worse. Would I repurchase? Ummm … no. Not when there are so many incredible K beauty skin care products out there that don’t leave me so sticky. Don’t get me wrong, Tony Moly is a great brand! Maybe it’s something in my skin that this serum clashes with. I have six or seven Tony Moly masks left that I will use, or maybe I’ll donate them. I have tried to like them. I really have! I have reviewed them before, and really focused on the positives. I am running out of positives, though. I feel so bad giving this mask a less than glowing review, but it is what it is. At least, for me and my skin, this is a miss.

What is your experience with Tony Moly masks? Do they work well with your skin? What about their other products, do they work well for you? Lemme know!
