About carrieanngulledge

I'm a housewife, married 21 years to my high school sweetheart. I am mom to one daughter in college, and two furbabies, Frodo and Pippin. We currently live on 22 acres in rural SC with the intent to homestead. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis a few years into restoring the house on the property. I decided I would not let these diagnoses control and ruin my life, so here we are! I have a lot ahead of me, but in the words of Montell Williams "Mountain! Get outta my way!"

Brief update

Hey y’all, it’s Friday!!! Whoohoooo! I hope everyone has had a great week so far! I just wanted to give y’all a quick update on my situation. My rib seems to be healing nicely. My pain is significantly less than it has been. So much so that I am quite sore from moving around too much haha! I am going to make an appointment with my family doctor as soon as possible, just to talk about what’s going on and what I can expect going forward.

Next, my computer has broken. I typed in my password to log in, and it stayed on the welcome screen. I left it, to see if it would bring up my desktop and it stayed on that dang welcome screen for hours. Anyone have that happen? Any ideas on how to fix it? I’m desperate, y’all haha! I’m not exactly sure what the problem is, but I just ordered a new laptop today and it should be here by Tuesday. In the meantime, I’ll keep trying to get into the darn thing. I have nine years worth of my life on there that I need to start pulling off! Yeah … it’s nine years old, long overdue to be replaced. I *should* be able to resume blog posts late next week or early into the week after. I need to give myself ample time to acquaint myself with the new machine, download all the various software that I need, etc.

When it rains it pours sometimes, but you’ll never see me with a frown! Despite the pitfalls life sometimes puts in our way, there is always something to be grateful for and something to be happy about. Life is far too short to spend it dwelling on things that are out of our control. I don’t intend on being a Negative Nelly. For one, it’s not my nature. For two, it just doesn’t serve any purpose. I’ve certainly never heard of anyone’s situation turning around because they complained enough about it, have you? We all need a bit of rain in order to grow and thrive where we find ourselves planted. I, for one, intend on being the strongest, prettiest flower in the garden 😉

Quick update

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope everyone had a great week! I have not, which is why I am giving y’all this update.

I had been having some pain in my left side since Sunday morning. I was kind of massaging the area Tuesday morning and felt an incredibly painful pop. Later that afternoon, I coughed to clear my throat, and felt another excruciating pop. My sister drove me to an urgent care facility associated with my family doctor. A few X-rays were taken and the doctor on call said I likely separated the cartilage from my rib cage.

I called my doctor the next morning and asked him to go over everything. He decided my X-rays warranted a second opinion, and lo and behold, I have fractured my 8th rib. From a light cough.

I see my rheumatologist Tuesday and will ask if this could be RA related somehow. My entire body has been affected by this damn disease, so to me, it’s not absurd that this could be related. Unfortunately, this injury severely hampers my ability to test out makeup, take photos, try out new face masks, etc. I can’t even get out of my recliner without a significant amount of help.

I will try my best, but I honestly don’t see me blogging anything more than updates to my condition, until the pain subsides. I am quite active on Twitter, so you can pop over there to stay in touch, if you’d like. My handle is @LkGoodFeelGood Thankfully, all Twitter requires is my phone and my thumb hahaha

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and I will be back just as soon as I can be!!

Skin Care Saturday ~ Ariul Juice Cleanse

**This post contains affiliate links. You can read my affiliate disclosure here.**

Whoohoo it’s the first weekend of the new year! Haha I have no idea why that is “whoohoo” worthy, but I think any weekend is “whoohoo” worthy 😉 It is still bitterly cold here, with no relief in sight until Monday, which is perfectly fine with me. The hubs left this morning to go out of town for a few days, so it’s just me and my dogs! My dogs are weird dogs, which really should come as no surprise haha The both refuse to go potty without someone being outside with them. And they have to go outside separately, of course. On top of that, in the mornings, every ten minutes, for at least two hours, one of them HAS to go out. So, not only do I have to stand outside in the bitter, bitter cold for 10-15 minutes, but I have to do it every ten minutes … for two hours. I do love my dogs, but I need them to understand that I don’t have fur!!

Alright, now that the obligatory cold weather gripe is out of the way, let’s talk skin care! I happened upon some really cool sheet masks the other day, and I was kinda of impressed with the ingredients. This is a new-to-me K-beauty brand, and I was really impressed to see an entire display at my local CVS. The brand is Ariul, and this is one of their Juice Cleanse masks, in raspberry and lentil.

First of all, I want to thank this company for sticking English instructions on the back. It can be frustrating trying to figure out if I’m supposed to rinse the left over serum off or leave it on, either of which could affect the overall performance of the mask. Second, anyone else intrigued by the addition of lentils in a skin care product?? From what I can gather, the lentils reduce excess oil production and help to reduce acne flares by helping to re-balance the skin’s pH. Well how about that! Also, this is one of the better fitting sheet masks I have come across in a long time.26655260_10156044045479357_1310741157_o

So let’s talk about the claims. I went to Amazon, because honestly that was just the easiest. The only claim in English, on the packaging, is it’s anti-wrinkle. According to Amazon, this product is 5 Free (paraben, mineral oil, tetraethylammonium, artificial color and cruelty free), reduces freckles and purifies skin, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that can help heal eczema and other skin conditions, it has antioxidant levels 10 times higher than tomatoes, and repairs, reinforces and immunizes the skin with its detox formula. I’m not exactly sure what “immunizes the skin” means, but as long as it doesn’t melt my face off, I’m up for giving it a go!

After cleansing and toning, apply this like you would any other mask. There’s a slight pink hue to the mask, which I am guessing comes from the fruits since it has no artificial colors. There’s also a very faint fruity scent, for those who may be sensitive. It is very, very slight, though. It should be left on for 10-20 minutes, and massage any remaining serum into the skin. This mask stayed put, even when I was sitting upright. I have found some masks really want to slip and slide around unless I am perfectly horizontal, which can be a real pain. Sometimes I want to watch TV while masking, and I had no problems doing that with this one.

I left the mask on for 17-ish minutes and there was a good bit of serum on my face. It was very wet when I pulled it out of the package, so I expected to have a decent amount left on my face. Several minutes after massing the serum in, I noticed that my face felt quite hydrated. It didn’t seem unreasonably sticky, and that faded after the product dried. Did I seem miraculously unwrinkled? Umm … no. I think with any anti-wrinkle product, the effects will happen after repeated use.

That’s not to say I was unhappy with the mask. As I said, my skin felt pretty hydrated. It’s been drier than usual, being winter and all, and I can’t imagine my skin was unhappy with being drenched in antioxidants. It even tells you how many milligrams of each fruit are in the mask! Maybe micrograms … 1,000 milligrams of raspberry and lentils seems like a lot.

I would say give this mask a go! If you cannot find it in your local CVS, you can find it here: Ariul Detox Juice Cleanse Sheet Mask Multipack of 5 - Facial Face Cleansing Mask Packs - Natural Raspberry & Lentil for Elasticity and Vitality, Anthocyanin, Reduce Freckle, Purify Skin(affiliate link)

So what do you guys think? Have you tried this or any other products from Ariul? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Lemme know!

Best Finds of 2017

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope the first week of 2018 has been fantastic for everyone! I dunno if you know, but it has been bloody COLD in South Carolina this week. Our average highs this week have barely crept out of the 30s, with nighttime lows in the teens. Those are highly unusual temperatures for the south. And, we got a freak snow storm this week, too, dumping up to seven inches in some parts of my town. If we get snow, it’s usually in February. January snows are very uncommon. Personally, I LOVE it!! I grew up in Ohio, and I miss having actual winters. My dreams came true this week, for sure!

All that time snuggled up inside has given me the opportunity to think about products that I truly fell in love with in 2017. There were plenty of products that I liked, but I’m going to talk about the ones that blew me away.

The first product I want to talk about isn’t a new one for 2017, but it is new to me. ColourPop’s Super Shock shadows absolutely blew my mind. Any of them. It doesn’t matter what shade or finish. Well, that’s not entirely true. The Super Shock shimmers (all varieties) are absolutely beyond mind-blowing. The Super Shock formula has a creamy texture that dries down, leaving a highly pigmented, sparkly, shimmery finish. These shadows run about $5 and come in every color and finish you can imagine. Make sure you close the container tightly, or they will dry out.

Skin Care

There are a few skin care products that have blown my mind in 2017, the first of them is from the brand Boscia, and it’s their Tsubaki Jelly Ball Cleanser. Y’all … this funky little ball gets my face so clean and my skin feels so good after! There’s no tightness or stickiness with this product. You can read my full review here. This will always have a place in my skin care routine. Next in skin care, is Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask, from Sephora. This product is a bit pricey, but worth every penny, in my opinion. I mention it here. My skin feels INCREDIBLE after washing this sleeping mask off. I just can’t describe how good it feels.

Hair Care

I’ve only come across one must-have with hair care, and that’s Redken’s Genius Wash for Medium Hair. If you have curly or color treated hair, I cannot recommend this product enough. This is not a shampoo, but a cleansing conditioner. These types of products are ideal for us curly girls. Shampoos can be too harsh for our particular hair type. A lot of people don’t realize the amount of care that curly hair needs haha This product makes caring for our delicate curls super easy! As for color treated hair, it’s just great! My colorist uses Pulp Riot, which is a semi permanent color. The more you wash, the faster the color will fade, so I try to wash my hair about twice a week. This cleanser allows me to be able to go that long between washes. My hair doesn’t get greasy and gross. Plus, this formula is incredibly gentle on the color. There is some color bleed after the initial washing, post color treatment. After that, there is barely any color bleeding at all! I get mine from Ulta, and it lasts quite a long time!

Personal Care

There are two items here, from the same company, Sol de Janeiro, from Sephora. The first item is the Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. It’s a skin tightening and smoothing cream, but honestly, I haven’t even paid that any attention. This stuff smells DIVINE! The scent is caramel pistachio and it will knock your socks off! The second product is their Brazilian 4 Play Moisturizing Shower Gel. It has the same scent and offers a very luxurious lather. With these two products, my skin has never felt better, or smelled so good haha

There you have it, y’all! These are the products I discovered in 2017 that I cannot and will not do without. They have all made my life and beauty routine much nicer 🙂 What do you think? What products did you come across in 2017 that became a holy grail product for you? Lemme know! I’d love to hear about them!

Long overdue ~ Sephora Rose Micellar Milk

Well hey ya’ll!! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I apologize for being MIA for the last several weeks. I wish I was that woman who had her life together and totally organized, but I’m just not. With the holidays, I feel like I woke everyday with my head on backwards, if that even makes any sense. Too much to do and not near enough hours in the day to do any of it. Couple that with my physical challenges and the last few weeks have bordered on insane. BUT those days are behind me now, and I can actually focus long enough to write more than a few sentences, and man … do I have some awesome things in mind!

We’ll get to those in later posts. I wanted to get back to doing what I love doing … reviewing products! I am forever on the hunt for a GOOD makeup remover. I adore Lancome’s Bi-Facil Double Action Eye Makeup Remover, but I am always looking for a remover that works just as well (or better) that doesn’t have such a high price tag. If you’d like, you can read my thoughts on that makeup remover here. I have dry, sensitive skin and the constant rubbing required to remove mascara really irritates the tops of my cheeks. I have been looking for something that works without all that rubbing. On top of irritating my cheektops, it’s just not healthy for the delicate skin around the eyes.

When Sephora suggested their Rose micellar cleansing milk, I thought I’d give it a shot. It was on sale for $4 (and still is), so there really wasn’t anything to lose.

According to the bottle, this product offers intense moisturization and an instant radiance boost. It also says it’s never greasy or sticky and there is no need to rinse the product off. There is a very pronounced rose scent, so if you are sensitive, this may not be the product for you. I used this over my entire face and didn’t notice that the scent lingered at all. It took four cotton rounds to clean my entire face. I wasn’t wearing foundation yesterday, just powder that had long since faded away. I used one over my entire face, one for each eye, and another to make sure I got everything. Not bad, but if you are wearing anything heavier than hours old powder, it’ll likely take many more to fully get the job done.

It removed everything quite well, even my mascara. I wasn’t wearing a waterproof formula, as I can’t seem to find it haha but I don’t see where this would have any problems cutting through that. My face felt very moisturized. However, my face was quite tacky and remained so for a few hours. It was driving me crazy not to rinse it off haha but I held strong! Once I got through the “never sticky” stickiness, my face felt pretty good, for a little while. The “never greasy” formula was VERY greasy in my normally dry t-zone. My face honestly felt like I was suddenly 14 again … ugghhhh nooooo! I really think it was because I didn’t rinse it off.

Is this micellar milk worth it? I think it is. It works really well at removing eye makeup. And, it’s currently $4. It smells really nice, I think, and it does hydrate. All that being said, I would highly recommend rinsing the product off. At the very least, run a dampened wash cloth over your face. I think that’s a pretty small compromise, considering the pros.

So what are your thoughts? Have any of y’all tried this remover? Lemme know what you think!

What’s Your Bedtime Routine?

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope everyone is doing well. I am writing this in the middle of the night, in case anyone was wondering. Haha why on Earth would that be something y’all would wonder?? Clearly, it is past my bedtime, but that is precisely what I wanted to talk with y’all about. When inspiration strikes, I have to obey her call!

Bedtime. This is probably one of my favorite times of the day. I am a creature of habit and routine. I perform better, whatever the task, when I have a predictable routine that I can follow. My bedtime routine also happens to be my favorite routine. I’m not talking about a nighttime skin care routine here. So what I am talking about?

My bedtime routine begins several hours before I actually fall asleep. When I decide that I am ready for bed, that doesn’t mean I am ready to go to sleep. It means I am ready to end my day and put it behind me. I start by brushing my teeth and washing my face, always in that order. I also tend to get a little obsessive about the order in which I do things. Things must happen in a specific manner, or I get a little out of sorts. That might not be the healthiest approach, from a mental health perspective, but it doesn’t get out of hand, I don’t think.

So, teeth brushed and face washed. Well, sort of. If I haven’t worn makeup that day, I don’t do a full-out facial wash. I will use a cotton pad and go over my face with a good micellar water, and then a good toner.

Next up is getting my blanket situation situated. Being late fall, it gets chilly at night, so I turn the electric blanket on and get my accessory blankets at the ready. I bought an Isaac Mizrahi blanket from Home Goods a few months ago and it is everything. I have never felt such a soft material!! This is the blanket I snuggle with. I make sure to keep it well out of my dogs reach. He sheds like mad and his fur must be coated with glue, because it sticks to everything like crazy!

I do several things while the blanket is warming up. First, I spritz my pillows down with a pillow spray. My current fave is Ritual of Ayurveda Bed & Body Mist. The scent is Indian Rose and Himalaya Honey. This particular rose scent is a bit musky to me. Not at all like the typical rose scents I am used to. That’s not a bad thing! It feels like the scent wraps itself around me when I lie down. It’s quite comforting!

Next, I get into my jammies. I have a bit of an addiction to pajamas. I own probably 20-25 pajamas, anything from night-shirts to onesies. When you have a chronic disease/chronic pain, pajamas become very near and dear, therefore, I need lots and lots haha I am, unfortunately, running out of space and I had to separate my jammies and store the out of season sets. Yep, it’s that kind of situation haha

After jammies comes my skin care routine. It has changed some over the last few months. I think I’ll post about it this weekend. Being as it is coming up on winter and I have dry skin, my nighttime skin care routine is pretty intense, and has two parts. Sometimes three! Between the first and second parts, I take my little doggo out for his final potty outing. This gives my products time to absorb and settle in before I go in with the heavier products. After I bring Frodo in, I grab a juice box, or some other small drink to have at my bedside.

Before I finish off my skin care routine, I put my hair up in a satin sleeping bonnet. I know, I know … it’s incredibly old-fashioned. It’s also incredibly effective at protecting my hair. Because I had it bleached and dyed, it’s very damaged. I knew that going in, though. Having it up in a bonnet keeps it from becoming a tangled nightmare while I’m sleeping. Satin is very easy on the hair (and skin). It’s also recommended that curly girls sleep on satin pillowcases, which I also have. Pillowcases perform the same function, but with the damage now, I have found the bonnet to be far more effective.

Once all of that is done, I grab a pair of thin socks and jump on into bed. This is the point when I slather myself down in lotion/body cream. I use socks in case I have to get back up, which I always do. I don’t want my feet to get covered in the stick-to-everything fur for one. For two, I don’t want to lotion/cream to rub off into my carpet. Besides, the heat from the socks helps the moisturizer to really sink into my skin. My mom taught me this trick. She had really dry hands and feet and covering them while they are drenched in moisturizers really helped to combat the problem. She used petroleum jelly, though, and I avoid that like the plague haha

Almost finished … I swear haha After all of this, I am ready to settle in with a book or to watch a program or some YouTube. I may do this for a few hours. It just depends on the day I’ve had, how I’m feeling, my pain levels, etc. I usually set an alarm on my phone, to wake me up around 11:30, in case I’ve fallen asleep without taking my nighttime medications. Once I do that, I take off the socks because who can sleep with socks on? Then I turn the light off and let the television lull me into a peaceful slumber.

And that’s it! It sounds like an awful lot, but truly, it t only takes around 15-20 minutes to get through everything. When you write it out though … phew … it sure seems like it takes hours.  There’s a comfort for me, having things follow a structured plan, so I rarely deviate from this regimen.

Do you have a bedtime routine? Is it this involved? Are you someone who needs structure and routine, or are you a come-what-may sort of person? Lemme know!

Nighty night!

Mid Week Mask ~ Naisture Plain Yogurt Mask Pack

**This post contains affiliate links. Please read my disclosure statement here

Good Friday Eve, y’all! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! Mine has been okay. I’ve been to town twice this week, and if you’ve been a consistent reader of mine, you are aware of the toll that takes. The good part of that is I got my hair re-done. It’s now a gorgeous pink menagerie, with some purple areas. My colorist is a genius, I swear.

Her eye for color and how various colors can work together is astounding. Apologies for the quality of the second photo. I took it outside, after dark, with my phone, and I should know better haha

While I was gone, the postman delivered a package from HauteLook. If you’ve never shopped with them, I highly recommend it. That being said, it will take quite a while to receive your package, so don’t order anything you need rather soon. In my order was this mask from Naisture. I had not heard of the company previous to ordering, so this was going to be an adventure!

The packaging y’all! There are some Korean companies that just go all out with the cute factor, and I think the jar presentation is simply adorable!! I will admit, I have purchased items solely based on their packaging. Thankfully, it’s usually worked in my favor.

I am a big fan of Korean skin care products. There is just something about them that works for my skin, and this product was no exception.

I greatly appreciate that a spatula was included, to dip out the product. It’s quite unhygienic to dip your fingers into a jar of product that will be going on your face. Often you have to dip in more than once, after having your fingers on your face, transferring bacteria and other germs into the jar. Then, you close up the jar, and the germs are left to fester, until you use it again, which can often cause a breakout. You might think the product is causing the breakout, when in fact, it was your own germs from the last time you used it. A spatula or other scooping tool is vital when using jarred products, in my opinion.

The mask looks very much like yogurt in the jar, and has no scent that I can pick up on. This is great for those of you who may be sensitive to scented products. It applied quite smoothly and feels like a very thick moisturizer. The instructions recommend leaving the mask on for ten minutes, then rinsing and following with a toner. It rinsed off cleanly, and didn’t leave behind any sticky feeling.

I must admit I am quite impressed with this mask. Even after toning, I feel like I didn’t need to apply moisturizer. My skin felt incredibly hydrated and supple. I have dry skin, as most women my age do, and the tops of my cheeks are particularly dry. Sometimes they get so dry they burn, which is not a feeling anyone wants to feel on their face. This mask fully hydrated even the tops of my cheeks. I usually have to apply an oil to get the same level of hydration that I received with one ten minute mask.

HauteLook events are short-lived and there is no telling when this product will be offered by them again. It is, however, available from Amazon: PREMIUM QUALITY PLAIN YOGURT MASK PACK, Ultra-mosturizing Face Yogurt Skin Balance for Smooth Skin 4.9oz. (affiliate link) If you struggle with dry skin, I cannot recommend this mask enough. For those of us with dry skin, winter can be especially harsh, and I think this mask is an ideal solution. Most of the instructions are in Korean, so there are no recommendations as to how often is can be used, that I can find. I am not an expert, but I would recommend starting with twice per week, once you see how your skin reacts after your initial application. This is based on my own experience, and yours might be different, so use your own judgement.

Have y’all tried this product before? Have you had any experience with other products from Naisture? What are your thoughts on K-beauty products? Lemme know! I’d love to have a conversation about it!

Makeup Monday ~ Laura Lee Los Angeles Cat’s Pajamas … finally

Getting to this review has taken way longer than it should have, y’all. I got the palette shortly after it released, but life seemed to have other plans for me hahaha I hope all of my friends in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Mine was wonderful, and my birthday was Saturday. which was also wonderful. Having a late November birthday has always been a double-edged sword. One the one hand, every few years my birthday falls on Thanksgiving and there is nothing better than having a full turkey dinner as your birthday dinner. On the other hand, it’s also exactly a month before Christmas, which was quite a bummer as a kid. It was always too close to Christmas to get a whole lot hahaha It’s not a big deal now, being an adult and all. My family spoils me to an incredible degree, regardless.

Let’s get to talking about this palette, shall we?

There are some public figures who seem to generate drama, no matter what. Laura Lee got crap for everything about this palette, before it was even released, and that simply wasn’t fair. I think people should have at least waited until they had a chance to try the shadows out, before writing it off completely. Unfortunately, there are some people who will never like particular figures … just because. Their loss, I suppose. I thought the palette screamed of Laura Lee haha

I can’t seem to find all of the pics I took with the shadows on, except one:

The formula is fantastic! The shadows blend quite easily, they don’t become muddy and they don’t blend into nothing. In fact, I don’t have a negative thing to say about the formula. My issue is strictly a personal one, and it’s the shades. Most of the entire top row just doesn’t work with my skin tone. The transition shades are too dark for me, and the shimmers are just too warm. I sent this picture to a male friend of mine, with absolutely zero makeup experience and he said something about it just didn’t look right, compared with my typical makeup looks he’s seen, and I agree.

Again, my issue is a totally one of personal preference. I look better in cooler tones and berry/pinks. Does that mean this was a complete waste of money? Not at all! I simply use the bottom row, with a different transition and I have been loving them with some ColourPop Super Shock shimmers. Having to pull from other palettes doesn’t really bother me, although it does bother some. If I had a bit deeper skin tone, this would be an all-in-one for me hahaha Laura clearly has a medium skin tone, and she designed this palette to include her favorite shades. Not a thing in the world wrong with that.

I am excited to see what else is coming from Laura Lee Los Angeles and if the formula stays the same, I’ll be buying it, so long as the colors work with my skin tone. I find the formula to be that good. I would recommend this palette to anyone, from someone just starting out, to a seasoned expert.

Have any of y’all tried the Cat’s Pajamas palette? What were your impressions of it? Lemme know!

Skin care Saturday … on a Sunday: Boscia Tsubaki Jelly Ball Cleanser

Happy Sunday, y’all! This post is a day late because I wanted to have an extra day with this product. You may or may not realize, but I am kind of a die-hard Boscia fan. I have yet to come across any of their products that don’t blow me away. I first became aware of their products when I saw RawBeautyKristi review the charcoal jelly ball cleanser. I immediately knew that this product needed to be in my life. You can read my review of that one here. I was in love. Truly, madly, deeply.

Then, I became aware of their tsubaki line. Having dry skin, this line seemed a much better choice for my skin. I have been using their Tsubaki Swirl moisturizer for a few weeks, and will have that review up next week. After using the moisturizer for a while, I tweeted the company and said they really needed a tsubaki jelly ball cleanser, and their response confirmed that it was happening. Sure enough, a few weeks later, it was all over Sephora’s website. Oh happy day!!!

I immediately ordered one and the waiting game began. I am not a patient person, and I could have gone into town to the Sephora, but I didn’t know if they had it. It’s a small store inside our small JC Penny, so their stock is pretty limited. Besides, I’d rather wait than be disappointed. So, I waited. One of the perks of having Rouge status is free 3-day shipping. Well, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Anyway, the glorious day finally arrived …

Look at how beautiful that is!!! Bear in mind, it is very slippery haha and you need to keep a tight hold of it, or it’ll bounce all over your bathroom. That may or may not have happened to me … several times hahaha

Tsubaki is another name for camellia. It is known to hydrate, firm and is full of antioxidants, which offer protection from free radical damage. Rice bran helps with anti-aging by providing essential nutrients to fight UV damage, reduces dark spots and helps with micro-circulation. Tamarindus Indica seed gum contains hyaluronic acid, which attracts moisture to the skin, helping to plump fine lines, which helps reduce their appearance. Also packed into this wonder ball you will find jojoba, orange and grapefruit peel oils, lime oil, mentha arvensis leaf oil (also known as wild mint, or field mint), which appears to have anti-inflammatory properties, and bergamot oil, which helps to unclog pores. WOW! This little ball is chock full of fantastic ingredients!

It doesn’t seem to have as rich of a lather as the charcoal ball, but it still lathers nicely. My skin does not feel tight after I rinse, and it feels moisturized. In fact, the tops of my cheeks are always dry, sometimes to the point of burning. This is actually working to reverse that! I can feel improvement in that area. There is a definite citrus scent, but it’s not strong or off-putting. It is more of an orange scent. In fact, it reminds me of the scent of children’s chewable aspirin, which is a pleasant childhood scent, oddly enough haha I find it to be pleasant anyway, and as I said, it is not strong. However, for those sensitive to scents, it is there. It does come from a natural ingredient, though, if that makes a difference for you and your skin.

I instantly fell in love with this cleanser, even more than the charcoal variety. I didn’t think that was even possible! I ordered another in my part two of the Sephora sale. (The sale ends 11/15, so if you haven’t taken advantage of these discounts, do it quickly! I had a few items in my cart that sold out, and I got my feelings hurt haha) This item is limited edition, and I have no idea how long it’ll be around. I really hope they will see the demand for this and make it permanent. What will my skin do when it disappears??

When I really love a product, it’s really obvious. I try to wait until the end of the review to give my final thoughts, but I just can’t. Also, I’m not the best poker player, for the same reason hahahaha

Have you guys tried this jelly cleanser, or the charcoal one? How about any other products in the tsubaki line? What do you think about them? Lemme know!

Thursday Things ~ Target Beauty Box November 2017

It’s Friday Eve y’all and another day closer to the best day ever … my birthday! Oh, also Thanksgiving, which just so happens to be my favorite holiday … aside from my birthday haha My birthday is pretty much a week-long holiday in my house. I’m working toward making it a month, but that might be pushing it. Gonna have to take that slow hahaha

You may or may not know, but Target offers a monthly beauty box. It’s not a subscription, so you have to go to the website and order every month. They usually become available a few days before the beginning of the month. If you are looking to order the November box, let’s say, the boxes usually become available the last day or so in October, and are available until they sell out. As of this writing, there are still November boxes available, and at around $7, I think they are a great deal, even better if you use your RED card and get 5% off!

This month looks to be pretty good, except for one product, which I will talk about in a bit. Please excuse the terrible lighting. It’s very overcast and rainy here, and even indoor lighting seems to be trash today.

There are 5-6 (usually 6) products every month, and this month’s offering looks pretty cool! (Can you spot the not-so-great product yet?) I am super excited to try out most of these products.

First up is a hydro-gel sheet mask from the company MISSHA. I’ve never used any of their products, nor have I used any facial products with snail excretions, but I hear they are excellent for your skin. This also contains baobab tree extract, which appears to have powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. I might have to try this one out tonight!

Next, we have a facial cleanser from the Toleriane line from La Roche-Posay . The company touts a few key ingredients on the website: Prebiotic Thermal Water, Ceramide-3, Niacinamide, and Glycerin. I had to Google a few of these haha It seems that prebiotic thermal water is used in place of the traditional deionized water. This water helps to feed the good bacteria that everyone has living on their skin, which, according to the site PR Newswire, is important for maintaining the overall health of our skin. Ceramide-3 is key in “reinforcing the natural water retention barrier in dry skin by promoting moisturization”. Niacinimide is a form a vitamin B3 that has soothing properties, and glycerin, which is found in many moisturizers, has the ability to attract water (moisture) to the skin. Well! This sounds like an all around fantastic skin cleanser! I am very much looking forward to trying this one out, since I have dry skin. With it being winter, and the season of super dry air, this might well be a miracle!

Next, we have a dandruff shampoo from Dove. I’m not really thrilled about this product for myself. I have colored hair and these types of shampoos will pull my color out in a second haha Besides, I don’t have dandruff. My hubby will get good use out of this, though. He doesn’t have dandruff, but he really couldn’t care less about shampoo haha

The next product from the box is a hand cream from the company Skinfix. I am always looking for a good hand cream, especially with winter looming. My hands get very dry and have been known to crack and bleed. This cream is chock full of fantastic, soothing ingredients and even won awards from People and Redbook magazines. Okay … I see you Skinfix! (Also, foiled packaging is the bane of my camera taking abilities. If anyone has any tips, please feel free to share!)

Another cool skin product that I am looking forward to trying out is this tiny bar of soap from Tom’s of Maine. I really like products from this company. I like that they are natural, whatever that means anymore haha I’m also a coconut lover, so this is pretty cool. I’m not a huge fan of bar soaps, even just for hand washing. They tend to be a little messy, but this is a small bar. I think I can manage for a little while.

And finally, the product I could really have done without … sigh … I’m not a mascara elitist by any means. My go-to mascara is a drug store brand, in fact. But this was just a disappointment for me. I think I’ll just leave it at that …

Okay, y’all! This was my run-down of this month’s Target Beauty Box. Overall, I’m pretty darn excited about it! Rarely has Target disappointed me, though. The products are great, and the value is outstanding. Oh! I almost forgot that there is a $3 off coupon included every month for your next beauty purchase of $15 or more. It does expire at the end of the month that you got the box though. It is available to use in store, or online, which is nice. The closest Target store to me is a 25 minute drive on the highway. Not exactly convenient.

What do y’all think? Do any of you get the Target Beauty Box? What did you think of this month’s products? Lemme know!
