Getting to this review has taken way longer than it should have, y’all. I got the palette shortly after it released, but life seemed to have other plans for me hahaha I hope all of my friends in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Mine was wonderful, and my birthday was Saturday. which was also wonderful. Having a late November birthday has always been a double-edged sword. One the one hand, every few years my birthday falls on Thanksgiving and there is nothing better than having a full turkey dinner as your birthday dinner. On the other hand, it’s also exactly a month before Christmas, which was quite a bummer as a kid. It was always too close to Christmas to get a whole lot hahaha It’s not a big deal now, being an adult and all. My family spoils me to an incredible degree, regardless.
Let’s get to talking about this palette, shall we?
There are some public figures who seem to generate drama, no matter what. Laura Lee got crap for everything about this palette, before it was even released, and that simply wasn’t fair. I think people should have at least waited until they had a chance to try the shadows out, before writing it off completely. Unfortunately, there are some people who will never like particular figures … just because. Their loss, I suppose. I thought the palette screamed of Laura Lee haha
I can’t seem to find all of the pics I took with the shadows on, except one:
The formula is fantastic! The shadows blend quite easily, they don’t become muddy and they don’t blend into nothing. In fact, I don’t have a negative thing to say about the formula. My issue is strictly a personal one, and it’s the shades. Most of the entire top row just doesn’t work with my skin tone. The transition shades are too dark for me, and the shimmers are just too warm. I sent this picture to a male friend of mine, with absolutely zero makeup experience and he said something about it just didn’t look right, compared with my typical makeup looks he’s seen, and I agree.
Again, my issue is a totally one of personal preference. I look better in cooler tones and berry/pinks. Does that mean this was a complete waste of money? Not at all! I simply use the bottom row, with a different transition and I have been loving them with some ColourPop Super Shock shimmers. Having to pull from other palettes doesn’t really bother me, although it does bother some. If I had a bit deeper skin tone, this would be an all-in-one for me hahaha Laura clearly has a medium skin tone, and she designed this palette to include her favorite shades. Not a thing in the world wrong with that.
I am excited to see what else is coming from Laura Lee Los Angeles and if the formula stays the same, I’ll be buying it, so long as the colors work with my skin tone. I find the formula to be that good. I would recommend this palette to anyone, from someone just starting out, to a seasoned expert.
Have any of y’all tried the Cat’s Pajamas palette? What were your impressions of it? Lemme know!
